First full day as a Catholic.
I stepped out of the Easter Vigil a brand-new creation โ washed clean in baptism, sealed by confirmation, and fed by my first Eucharist. A year of quiet longing, late-night prayers, and steady steps forward finally led me here.
The world looks different this morning. Brighter. steadier.
God is faithful.

Another beautiful similarity between us Catholics and the Latter-day Saints: our work for the dead.
We Catholics pray for the souls in Purgatory. We offer Masses for them. And we can gain indulgences for them through prayer and devotion.
From Nov 1โ8, for example, visiting a cemetery and praying for the dead carries a plenary indulgence that can be applied only to a soul in Purgatory (my wife and I did this this evening).
Our Latter-day Saint friends understand that instinct very well.
In their temples, the living stand as proxies for the dead โ baptisms and other ordinances performed on behalf of those who never had the chance in this life.
The shared conviction runs deep. Death does not sever our bond with those we love, Godโs mercy reaches beyond the grave, and the living can still act in love for the dead.

Everything that happened with the Learjet 60 yesterday is an absolute tragedy.
With all the current evidence, it is highly likely that this was a combination of bad weather, lack of de-icing, and inadequate planningโcombined that caused this crash.
If this plane was properly weather-proofed, and stayed clear of the stormโthose 9 individuals would be alive today.
De-icing planes is monotonous, trust meโฆIโve done it. It sucks, and maybe your flight gets delayed by an hour. Next timeโbe thankful.

Catholics, reminder:
You can free a soul from purgatory every day this week.
From Nov 1โ8, the Church grants a plenary indulgence, applicable to the souls in purgatory, each day you:
1. Visit a cemetery and pray for the dead (even silently)
2. Go to confession (within about 20 days before or after)
3. Receive Holy Communion
4. Pray for the Pope's intentions (an Our Father and Hail Mary is enough)
5. Be detached from all sin, even venial
Today only (All Souls Day): you can also gain one by visiting a church and praying the Our Father and the Creed.
One confession covers the whole week. Communion and the prayer for the Pope are needed for each day's indulgence.
And if you're not fully detached from sin, you still gain a partial indulgence. So go anyway.

Saint Jude is one of the twelve apostles and he is the patron of hopeless causes and desperate situations. People turn to him when they feel like nothing can help anymore and they ask him to pray for them. Tradition says he was a relative of Jesus and he preached the gospel with great courage until he was martyred. Many Catholics keep a devotion to him because they believe he brings help in the hardest times.
A beautiful quote of Saint Jude is: โWith a firm faith in the heart and with a humble and contrite spirit, I ask you, O most holy apostle, to intercede for me before the throne of God.โ

Catholics ask Mary (and other saints) to pray for them because those who are united with Christ in heaven remain members of his Body and can intercede. This is not worship of Mary but a request for prayer, like asking a living Christian to pray for you.

I think when people realize the Vatican is literally built on the Rock (St Peter) they realize that Catholicism is the only true faith.
Chris Pratt says Imax drone cameras were used for his new Vatican documentary with Pope Leo, which explores the tomb of St. Peter. He says the experience helped redefine his Catholic faith:

Western liberals imported the third world into France and other countries in the name of diversity and compassion. They ignored fundamental questions of assimilation and compatibility. They were told it would lead to this and they didn't listen.
I pray that France, a beautiful country of amazing people, will stop this madness before more of its landmarks burn.
And I hope Americans are paying attention. This is the future congressional Democrats seek for your country.
