Alpha’s headline product is “2 Hour Learning.”
Our kids worked mornings and evenings. Often under incredible stress because they were pressured daily to hit the school-set XP targets.
2-hour learning is a farce.

@benjaminjriley is everyone aware Austin Scholar is Joe Liemandt’s daughter?
Alpha hires Guides.
That isn’t innovation.
It’s a downgrade of the adult in the room.
They’re just a motivator with a dashboard.
“High standards, high support” sounds great until the support person has no training on the subject.
How are they going to help you in math, reading, literacy??

Alpha claims students learn at +2x the speed.
We found this sole metric to be very flawed. Guides didn’t care how you learned, what topics the kid was struggling in. They were just focused on the number.
Plus, many children were behind grade level expectations.
Once a class has too many of these students, the algorithm needs to refill the classroom with more kids who have more potential to 2x.
Maybe that’s why Alpha has to grow so aggressively even in the eyes of HUGE growing pains.
Alpha needs an inflow of new students who can 2x..
@benjaminjriley the churn in students isn’t random. We believe it’s required to hit the numbers.
Alpha claims they use AI.
What families live is kids on learning apps , the kinds already sold to millions of households, while a dashboard tracks time and accuracy.
There is no deep AI model that is trained on breaking through learning plateaus. And when your kid struggles? What happens when the apps don’t work? You’d think you’d have teachers who know how to help. But they don’t. More on that another time…

A two-hour academic day only counts if the rest of the day is free.
When kids are grinding XPs at home to stay on pace, Alpha is not selling a short day. It is relocating the work onto the family.
@WIRED reported what parents and former guides already knew: to keep up with lesson rates and rewards, kids often worked late into the night at home.
