☀️INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT☀️ ✅ Brad O'Connell -- Managing Director | Academy Coach Brad O'Connell has been Managing Director and Academy Coach at Momentum Baseball Academy since 2015. A native of Elk Mound, as well as an Eau Claire Legion and UW-Stout alum, Brad has been a fixture in the local baseball community as both a player and coach, his entire life. Brad capped his college baseball career by signing as a free agent with the Los Angeles Dodgers Organization in the summer of 2001. A two-time 1st Team All-WIAC and All-Region player, he is the only UW-Stout Blue Devil baseball player in history to earn 1st Team All-American honors when he led the country in batting average (.524) in 2001. The 2001 WIAC Baseball Player of the Year, O’Connell had 12 home runs with a slugging percentage of .984. O’Connell had a 37-game hitting streak that stretched from 2000 into the 2001 season, currently tied for 3rd longest in WIAC history. For his career, O’Connell holds a school record batting average of .422 and a school record slugging percentage of .810. He is also tied for the school career record in home runs with 30 and is third all-time in stolen bases with 43. Aside from his Director responsibilities at Momentum, Brad is available year-round as a hitting instructor for both softball and baseball. Brad and his wife Sarah live in Eau Claire. They are parents to Dylan (21) and Cami (19). Dylan is currently in his Junior year playing baseball at Western Kentucky University. ☀️INSTRUCTOR SPOTLIGHT☀️ ✅ Jeff Dykes -- Pitching Instructor Jeff Dykes has been a Pitching Instructor at Momentum since 2022. Jeff brings extensive pitching experience to all of his clients. Currently the Pitching Coach for the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, he previously served as the Pitching Coach for Regis High School in Eau Claire for 13 years, helping the Ramblers win a WIAA state championship in 2022. He developed several pitchers who went on to compete at the college level, including Division I. Dykes also recently served as a pitching coach for the Eau Claire American Legion 19U team that reached the Great Lakes Regional and was one of the final 32 teams competing in the nationwide playoffs. In 2021, Dykes became a certified pitching instructor under the National Pitching Association (NPA) and Dr. Tom House. Prior to his coaching days, Dykes starred for Whitnall High School, where he led the Falcons to a WIAA summer baseball state championship in 1991. He went on to pitch as a late-game closer at the Division II level with UW-Parkside. Post-college, Dykes pitched with the Eau Claire Cavaliers, where he posted a career ERA of 1.77 across four seasons. He set single-season and career save records with the Cavaliers. Jeff runs our NPA Pitching Program, which is for baseball only. This 10-week program, which was created by Coach Dykes in compliance with National Pitching Association protocols, runs January to March each year at our facility. He served 22 years as a firefighter/paramedic before taking a job at CVTC instructing future firefighters/paramedics.
