And while we are busting fitness myths, here's one more. If you need anything to remove toxins from your body besides your liver and kidneys, please go see a doctor immediately, bestie ❤️

Weight as best health measure. #Weight is one measure of health. But not the best. If you want one number? Try resting heart rate instead. RHR gives a great evaluation of the heart/body. Still, one number is always only one number. Use many numbers for a complete picture 🖼

Standing all day. #Standing desks are great. But the magic isn't in standing -- it's in *changing positions* through the day. Stand, sit, lie down on your stomach, squat, tiptoes, march around, prancercize, Captain Morgan stance, handstand 🤸🏻‍♀️

#Run 1.5mi for [x] time. Beware any metric that demands certain times, distances, or reps for an entire age group. Usain Bolt hasn't run a mile since he was a little kid. He's doing ok. Create your own distance, time, or rep scheme and track personal progress instead 📈

Touch your toes. Can't bend and touch your toes? That's ok! The metric is whether you are *mobile* rather than *flexible*. A deep squat; getting up off the floor easily; reaching overhead without arching; looking behind you while reversing 🚘

10,000 steps. There's nothing magical about 10k steps a day. Studies show the biggest #health benefits (which are big! 50% to 70% less likely to die of ANY reason over the next decade!) come around *6,000 to 7,000* steps per day 🏃🏾‍♂️🏃‍♀️

#Fitness milestones that everyone tells you are super duper major important but really aren't (plus some better metrics to use instead): 🧵

3) Self-perception. You don't look stupid. You look amazing! Millions of people are trying to convince themselves to do what you've already started! The fear that everyone is watching you is in your head. The belief that you deserve this and can do this is also in your head 👊

2) Perspective. If you wouldn't take a Mandarin class for the first time and then be furious two weeks later when you're still not fluent in Mandarin, then don't bring this expectation to the gym either. Learning how to exercise is no different than learning any other skill.

1) Patience. Patience means you don't load up the bench press with the weight your buddy did in high school and still talks about today. It also means you don't just go run wind sprints for an hour no matter how imminent the father-son soccer game is.

"Weightlifting/strength training is the best-kept secret for changing your body composition! Relatedly, that weightlifting doesn't make you huge unless you are actively following a program that calls for hugeness." 💪 -Paulina

"Not to compare your own fitness journey with other people's fitness journeys. Celebrate your own victories, no matter how small! It's more filling and more sustainable." 🫶 -Li
