1/8 As I prepare to leave Rome after five remarkable years at @UKinHolySee, a few memories from an extraordinary posting. It began in 2021 with my arrival in Rome and one of my earliest highlights: meeting Pope Francis. Rome and its diplomatic community soon became a second home

His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has become Papal Confrater of the College of St George at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
A particularly poignant announcement today, on the first anniversary of Their Majesties’ State Visit to the Holy See.

7/8 I was fortunate to meet many people working quietly to make a difference, from youth anti-trafficking advocates to women leaders and environmental campaigners. These partnerships taught me as much as they achieved
8/8 A final personal highlight was seeing my book presented to His Holiness and bidding him farewell. But no posting is the work of one person. I leave grateful to the @UKinHolySee team and to the many colleagues, partners and friends who shared this journey. Thank you 🇬🇧🇻🇦

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.

Useful discussion with @iamCARITAS, @WFP and @FAO on the Ebola outbreak in the DRC. Community trust is critical to containing transmission, and faith leaders and local networks have a vital role to play. The UK continues to support the response #DRC #Ebola
