Israeli occupation forces reportedly establishing base on strategic Syrian peak
——
Israeli occupation forces have begun transferring heavy military equipment and advanced technology to the summit of Jabal al-Arab in Syria’s southern Sweida governorate in preparation to establish a permanent military base, according to local sources cited by Nabd al-Sham and Syria 360.
The strategic height, located in a predominantly Druze region, is expected to house sophisticated early-warning radar systems and surveillance equipment aimed at expanding Israeli intelligence coverage across southern Syria.
Local reports indicate that dozens of Israeli military helicopters conducted heavy airlift operations over a 72-hour period, transporting significant quantities of arms, tactical hardware, and surveillance gear to the summit.
The air bridges represent a major logistical movement deep inside Syrian territory as Israeli forces continue expanding their footprint beyond the occupied Golan Heights.
In response to the rapid buildup, local Druze authorities issued strict orders banning civilians from approaching, inspecting, or photographing the newly designated military zones.
The unauthorized establishment of an Israeli base on Jabal al-Arab marks a severe escalation in Tel Aviv's ongoing military encroachment into southern Syria, threatening to further destabilize the region.

Good to see sanity return to the tired continent, @gideonrachman.
Since the Europeans have such great difficulty in understanding Russia, let me explain. The second option is just not going to fly. Ukraine will never join Nato. It will either be destroyed or it will be neutral.
The first can work. But Putin is going to demand curbs on flows of Western arms and intelligence to Ukraine. In addition, Ukraine will have to formally neutral, not just excluded from Nato. Then it will be acceptable to the Russians that unoccupied Ukraine can enjoy unimpeded economic intercourse with Europe.
The Russians are also going to demand that Western sanctions are removed, and Russian assets unfrozen.
Finally, there is no chance in hell that the Russians would accept any deal with Europe that does not include the signature of the US president. Europe cannot strike a deal with Moscow that excludes the US. The reason is very simple. If the US does not fully participate in the peace agreement, then the Russian security problem has not been solved.
The alternative is a great power concert that leaves Europe out entirely.

Four months since I published this analysis on Crimea’s logistics resilience. The “blockade” that never happened was another exaggerated narrative of this conflict that did not withstand scrutiny. Many observers claimed Russia would evacuate in weeks… evidently not.

(1/8) [ANALYSIS] The Crimean Logistics Strikes and the Limits of Blockade Claims.
There has recently been a wave of commentary about an alleged blockade of Crimea being enforced, often using maximalist language or implying a decisive strategic impact on logistics that could eventually force Russia to abandon the peninsula or negotiate over it. This framing is giving insufficient attention to supply routes capacity, structure, and the history of Crimea’s logistics since the 2014 annexation.
The point is not that Ukrainian strikes are ineffective since they clearly create disruption, congestion and shortages. However this is not the same as blockade, and route-capacity data suggests that claims of Crimea being cut off should be treated with caution.
Recently released AFU footage and satellite imagery do show damaged to the bridges connecting Crimea to the mainland and strikes on trucks along the highways. Yet, these represent only part of the broader supply chain into the peninsula.
Summer time amplifies the pressure.
Summer is an especially favourable period to create visible disruption because tourists can increase the effective population by roughly 25%, and most visitors arrive by road: around 76% by car or bus, including about 61% via the Kerch Bridge. This means tourist traffic shares routes with goods transport, creating congestion and bottlenecks.
In that sense, the summer tourist season is to Crimean logistics what winter is to Ukrainian energy infrastructure: the period when disruption is most visible and politically sensitive. A significant part of the current strain can therefore be attributed to seasonal peak demand.

NEW: Türkiye will receive some of the diesel Russia is releasing to global markets under its recent deal with the United States, Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said.
Under the deal announced by Trump on October 9, Russia is set to supply more than 1.8 million tons of diesel in the coming months, with a U.S. license allowing the transactions through April 2027.
Russia supplied about 85% of Türkiye’s diesel imports in 2025, but Russian export restrictions this year pushed Ankara to buy record volumes from India and the U.S.
