Two weeks ago today, I admitted that politics has not been working for you and that we all need to raise our game. I meant it. So here's just some of what we've announced in the first fortnight: ✅ New national drive to end rough sleeping ✅ Tax cut on energy bills ✅ £2 cap on bus fares in England ✅ Record numbers of NCA officers deployed to tackle gangs behind small boat crossings ✅ 20% cut in business rates for thousands of pubs, clubs, and music venues ✅ Number 10 North, driving power out of Westminster and into every postcode across the country ✅ 14-year-olds will have early access to technical education, skills training and connections with employers ✅ Plan to fix our broken social care system ✅ Investment in our nuclear deterrent, supporting 22,000 apprenticeships ✅ Local mayors will get a share of income tax This is just the start. I know a fortnight does not fix a country. But I said I would do things differently, and I am.

Keeping the public safe will always be my top priority. I have instructed my team to put a pause on the sentencing changes that were due to start in September. No prisoners will be let out under this policy until we have conducted an urgent review and done everything we can to minimise risk to the public.  Where changes are needed, I will not hesitate to make them.

I said I would give people a bit more breathing space. Today I’m taking immediate action - cutting taxes on energy bills to put more money in your pocket.
