Robert Towne on what makes "Casablanca" (1942) a great movie:
"I love 'Casablanca' (1942). It’s one of the most romantic American movies ever made. This is one of the greatest and most entertaining movies ever made. It’s virtually set in one setting, but there are a variety of characters and a richness of characters.
There is a kind of absolute perfection in the wit of the screenwriters of the 1940s. They could come up with the words. Then you have the pairing of Bogart and Bergman. It’s one of the most brilliant teamings of all time."
("You Gotta See This", Cindy Pearlman, 2007)
