I used to work in a flagship store. For iPhone 7 launch we had <30 units of the Jet Black. Like the Duo, that was down to rumored manufacturing issues. I think the Duo inventory at stores is going to be worse/non-existent. 5th ave will gets some for photo ops with execs maybe.

1. Someone screwing up a press release isnā€™t the CEO ā€œfumbling.ā€ At most, itā€™s marketing misinterpreting the copy or failing to catch an error before approving it for publication. Still not good. But letā€™s put things in perspective.

The two biggest Apple fumbles under Johnā€™s leadership so far: 1. Apple first said the new Photographic Styles is coming to iPhone 16 and 17 series. But later completely backtracked and made it exclusive to the 18 series. 2. They are keeping the new Readiness feature in watchOS exclusive to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. Even tho older watches are completely capable of calculating it. Older models also support HRV, training load, vitals, sleep score, and other metrics they use to calculate readiness. They couldā€™ve totally made it work. I hope these decisions are not specifically from John and do not reflect what heā€™s gonna do at Apple in the coming years.

2. Apple could design a readiness score for older Watches. But it would be less accurate/reliable. Older watches lack the hardware to produce the quality & volume of data that the new algorithm requires to interpret your ā€œreadinessā€. New watches capture 60x more HR/24x more HRV data.

As an analogy, just look at chatbot models. The more data theyā€™re trained with, the more reliable/capable they become. This is the same principle applied to a health algorithm. But vote with your wallet. If missing out on this is a red line, donā€™t buy another Apple Watch. Easy.
