With thanks to a subscriber who writes in, “I was at a citizenship ceremony 2 weeks ago. Carney video message was shown. It’s happening already.”
Video featuring PM @MarkCarney will be shown at citizenship ceremonies. Dept @CitImmCanada cautioned swearing-in, a legal requirement, should be nonpartisan. blacklocks.ca/pm-video-part-… #cdnpoli #cdnfoi #ATI

“How do we protect and defend our citizenry from this unbelievable tsunami of #disinformation? In a sense we become a beacon for truth.” — Catherine Tait ex-@PresidentCBCRC, May 30, 2019 Also we do stories @iciradiocanada based on fake tweets without checking. @ChantalHbert @CBC #cdnmedia
A satirist created a false, incendiary social media post, attributed to Jacinthe-Eve Arel, the new chief of staff to a Quebec government minister. It falsely claimed she would give her vote away to a man ( Eric Duhaime- Conservative Party). Radio Canada reported it as if it were true. CBC -Radio Canada’s responsibility to the public here is not complete I’m afraid. An apology from Ms Hebert is not terribly relevant. To regain credibility a person in a position of responsibility should explain how it passed, or in this case, failed, editorial verification. Please describe the chain of editorial decisions that allowed this fabrication onto its airwaves. And how it will prevent that from happening again.

Is @MarkJCarney talking about the same Turkey as the Government of Canada Travel Advice web page?
Canada's prime minister says Turkey values human rights, democracy and rule of law after meeting with Erdogan. Turkey has: • imprisoned the main opposition figure whose on trial • taken over a pro-opposition news channel • detained LGBT activists + broke into their offices

Anyone know if CBC plans on having the BC election analyzed - as was the AB referendum - by a group of people living a 5,000+ km drive from Vancouver?

The rise of the Far Left (a phrase no one wants to use) in Canada.
Québec solidaire spokesperson Ruba Ghazal being sworn in as a member of the National Assembly in Quebec City. She was visibly moved to meet former MNA Manon Massé. She took her scarf and waved it in the air.

If it's warm and sunny today, that's an example of 'St Luke's little summer' - a traditional name for a period of fine weather around the feast of St Luke, 18 October. The sunlight of summer, falling on the glowing colours of autumn. gutenberg.ca/ebooks/sackvill…

It’s like they know the government is weak, or doesn’t really care: “more than two months after it was launched, barely any of the expected listings have materialized”🤔

Yep: “CBC will quote Pope Leo when he opposes capital punishment and how it relates to Trump. They go quiet when he opposes euthanasia and abortion. That’s not journalism. That’s agenda-driven curation.”
CBC’s selective Pope Leo coverage is textbook bias This morning they ran Pope Leo XIV’s Oct 10 tweet declaring the death penalty “inadmissible” because it attacks the dignity of the person. Fair enough — World Day Against the Death Penalty, and it fits the preferred CBC narrative What they never amplify with the same urgency: His repeated statements that every human life is sacred “from the moment of conception until natural death” and that the right to life is the foundation of every other right His direct rebuke when he was in Lourdes of euthanasia and assisted dying as “false compassion,” his insistence that “what is legal is not necessarily moral,” and his warning that medicine must never become “the servant of programmed death” or decide the life of an embryo or an elderly person. Canada has the fastest-growing euthanasia regime in the Western world (MAiD now ~5% of all deaths) and one of the lowest fertility rates (1.26). A Pope who consistently defends life from conception to natural death is politically inconvenient for outlets that treat abortion as settled and MAiD as progressive healthcare CBC will quote Pope Leo when he opposes capital punishment and how it relates to Trump. They go quiet when he opposes euthanasia and abortion. That’s not journalism. That’s agenda-driven curation The pattern holds: statements that align with progressive Canadian consensus (opposition to capital punishment) get airtime and framing

I think it's okay to say "crap" when you see it and without any obligation to provide an alternative, but, it's surely the case that the Nobel committee could have awarded the prize -- among English language poets -- to someone like Catharine Savage Brosman, Dana Gioia, Timothy Steele, Ted Kooser, Paul Muldoon, A.E. Stallings, B.H. Fairchild, Charles Martin, Gjertrud Schnackenberg, Mary Jo Salter, Robert Pinsky (feeling generous) . . . or a balony sandwich. Sandwich for the win.
Any right-winger getting mad about Anne Carson’s Nobel should be forced to name 5 living poets they would’ve given the Nobel to instead

Imagine living in a country where the government - run by a much-adored economist - wants to force companies to operate at a loss while simultaneously wondering why there isn’t more private sector investment.

I've heard some pretty horrific things about OUP from a source there. Basically, the new strategy is to phase out print in favour of selling database bundles.

This is great news for Canada’s new Ocean Envoy, Mrs Prime Minister!
Canada has the longest coastline on Earth. We are an ocean nation. That’s why we’re backing front-line conservation efforts with more than $1 billion to protect them. Our oceans shaped the Canada we know today — and how we treat them will shape our future.
