As a kid, I had about 50 WOMEN, including my mom, gathered in our living room, encouraging each other and fighting against all odds to become the FIRST WOMEN FIREFIGHTERS EVER in the FDNY.
AND THEY DID IT!!! 🚒💪
Those women weren't just fighting for jobs. They were fighting for opportunity, respect, and a future where women could accomplish what others said couldn't be done.
I witnessed firsthand what happens when women LIFT EACH OTHER UP instead of tearing each other down.
THAT KIND OF SISTERHOOD CAN CHANGE HISTORY!
And here's something I've learned...
Strong women don't have to compete with each other.
Real friendship isn't about jealousy, popularity, or who's doing better.
It's about showing up, celebrating each other's victories, and standing together when life gets ROUGH.

We recently visited Red House Gallery & Studios, and WOW! What an incredible experience!
Paintings, sculptures, photography, ceramics, fiber art, jewelry, woodwork, prints, and cards — all created by talented local artists.
And there's a beautiful story behind this place.
The Red House is home to the Swannanoa Valley Art League, founded in 1967. After decades of supporting local creativity, the organization moved into a historic building at 101 Cherry Street in downtown Black Mountain, opening its new gallery in 2024.
That move brought art right into the heart of downtown, making it easier for residents and visitors to discover local artists, explore rotating exhibitions, meet creatives, and purchase original work.
You can even browse and shop online through Red House Gallery & Studios!
Here's what I love most about art: Behind every piece is a person. A story. A lifetime of experiences. Sometimes joy, sometimes heartbreak, sometimes simply the beauty of these mountains.

The Battle of Kings Mountain took place on this date, October 7, in 1780. Although fought just across the South Carolina border, the Battle of Kings Mountain was in large measure a North Carolina victory. NC militia helped organize the expedition (assembled at Quaker Meadows outside of what is now Morganton) and roughly 550 North Carolinians made up a large part of the attacking force. Their bravery in facing British Loyalists helped deliver a victory that forced Gen. Cornwallis to retreat from Charlotte. #Celebrate250
