On top of the extra £39 million grants the Labour Govt has given Tower Hamlets Council for '26/27 it is now being allowed to keep a further £10 million Business Rates and will get a £2.7 million more grant. In this context there is no excuse for Mayor Rahman's 5% Council Tax hike

After pushing hard as Scrutiny Lead for Community Safety, I’m glad the Aspire administration has reversed plans to cut funded police patrols on our estates.
Residents are clear: safety comes first & cutting police presence amid rising anti-social behaviour was the wrong move.

After pressure from residents and scrutiny at committee, Aspire has dropped plans to cut council-funded estate police patrols (from 14 to 8). That’s the right decision, and a win for community safety.

Tower Hamlets is under Government intervention for a 'culture of patronage' and governance failings.
But the Green Party is helping Lutfur Rahman’s Aspire party avoid scrutiny of this.

Once more, Aspire think they're above the rules. A culture of cover-up and patronage. Not by accident, but by design.
Last night, Bow’s Green councillor voted to enable it, and defend Aspire from scrutiny. Ironically, she's an Aspire-appointed ‘Scrutiny Lead’.

The government has given an extra £178.8 million to Tower Hamlets. The council has the funding needed to deliver better outcomes for local people. But now it needs the leadership to match.
