Mobile, containerized launch on demand and flight-proven satellite propulsion for responsive access to space. On a mission to Improve Life on Earth from Space®

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: @Astra has built a mobile launch system designed to send rockets into space within 48 hours, with the rocket and launch equipment transported in standard 40-foot shipping containers. @Kemp, CEO of Astra Space, sees sovereign access to space as critical to national security. With launch capacity constrained and traditional spaceports tied to fixed infrastructure, Astra wants to give the United States and its allies the ability to rapidly deploy launch capability around the world. The vision is a distributed network of mobile spaceports that strengthens resilience and deterrence and could be established almost anywhere, even in a Walmart parking lot.

Nearly a decade ago, Adam and I started Astra with a simple idea: launch shouldn’t be limited to a handful of places on Earth. Today, our next-generation rocket is sitting in the English countryside after crossing the Atlantic in standard shipping containers. The future of launch is everywhere.
Astra’s next-generation rocket just crossed the Atlantic. Rocket 4.0 arrived in the UK the same way it’s designed to launch: in standard shipping containers. Mobile. Containerized. Orbital. The future of launch is everywhere.

ICBMs aren’t the only threat. Think millions of drones, forward-deployed in thousands of orbital rockets, launched from hundreds of mobile launchers deployed in dozens of countries. Golden Dome must be global, responsive, mass-produced, and unstoppable. @Astra is building the pipeline. 🚀 #EconSpace @alokjha

Chris Kemp (@Kemp) took @Astra public in 2021 with a bold vision: low-cost rockets launching daily, bringing sovereign space access to every country on Earth. At its peak, the company was worth over $2B. Within two years, that valuation collapsed by 99%. Valley of Depth EP 011 brings Chris back on the show to go inside one of the most dramatic flameouts and attempted comebacks in the commercial space era. We discuss: – Why Astra’s SPAC-era promises didn’t survive contact with reality – What really went wrong with Rocket 3 and how much of that falls on Kemp – The decision to take the company private and buy it back for pennies on the dollar – How Astra raised $80M, and its attempt to raise another $100M+ – The quiet traction of its satellite propulsion business – Rocket 4, and whether this time is actually different – How Astra is being repositioned as a mobile, defense-aligned launch platform Full episode in comments 👇

Are you trying to become the Henry Ford of modern day rockets? @Astra CEO @Kemp: What makes them affordable is that they are manufactured many times over. If you make hundreds of these machines, you can drive down the cost of going to space. #MWMoneyFestival
