Live Dance Sparks Brain Synchrony A recent study shows that live dance performances uniquely synchronize audience members’ brainwaves, revealing a collective attentional state. Researchers equipped audiences with EEG headsets and found their delta-band brain activity aligned more strongly during live shows than when watching alone. Even watching a recorded performance in a group created some synchrony, but much less when viewed solo. Moments of highest brain synchrony matched scenes the choreographer predicted as most engaging. This suggests that live art fosters a measurable, shared experience rooted in social presence. The findings underscore how performers and audiences co-create the magic of live performance.
