Tim Sweeney doesn't know that Steamworks works on other platforms via the web API.
It's literally what powers cross saves in games like Daemon X Machina for Nintendo Switch.
This has been a thing since Portal 2 on PS3.

Exactly this. Valve has held gaming back for years by locking developers’ PC games into Steamworks’ social walled garden where players can’t talk to other players on iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, or even other PC stores.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
You can use Steam Datagram Relay (and its servers) on any platform as long as your title ships on Steam.

FYI, Epic's launcher lacks Steam's:
VR support
Recording
Screenshots
Live Streaming
Mods
Voice API
Big Picture Mode
Community hubs (games can integrate this)
Dynamic cloud saves
A SteamInput equal
A Steam Audio equal
A Steam inventory equal
Game notifications
Net cafe support

The client is basically irrelevant in this day and age. Anyone could build one better than Steam and it wouldn't even be hard. I only bring it up because it's what everyone talks about when defending Steam. Like it's still 2024 and these things are hard.
Steams only remaining value is it's network.
Steam is more than just a launcher, people have many alternatives to those, but I think it speaks volumes that even Epic with their constant attacks on Steam and heavy vibe coding still can't put out a launcher that can scan preinstalled files reliably. They don't get the problem
It's really sad that the games industry is drained by a 30% tax on gross revenue.
You could vibe code a Steam alternative in a week. Cloudflare egress is basically free.
The industry is in desperate need of a distribution platform that allows developers to keep their revenue.
Networks effects and the fanatic obsession with "muh Steam library" will make this very difficul.
But if devs could actually keep their earnings, we'd have a greater selection of better games and far more financial success stories.

my dudes, this is an easy one. they do not care. these are not banking billionaires - they're revenge of the nerds billionaires. they've hated people since middle school and they want to win the game they think we're all playing.
I cannot wrap my head around the endgame here. If you destroy the planet, crash the global economy, and leave ordinary people too broke to buy anything, what exactly are billionaires planning to do with all that money? Sit in underground bunkers staring at bank balances while the world falls apart? Wealth is only valuable when there's a functioning society around it. So what exactly are they trying to win?

That’s because Trauma Team are absolutely neutral. They don’t care who you are or with, as long as you are their customer. They are the most realistic future of healthcare in many ways.

Harry Kane going from football’s most famous trophyless player to a Ballon d’Or winner might be the greatest example of why changing employers can improve your life.

buddy you're 5 years late, how the fuck did you even find this post
I have to wonder what the never looking at the code at all crowd are working on because even the latest models occasionally produce beautifully convincing slop that only knowing better or a human review will catch. The code works but it's neither optimised nor readable 🤦🏾♂️😂

Well deserved, Harry Kane. 👏

Hätte dieser 19-jährige Lausbub aus Barcelona nicht einfach seinen Mund halten können? Kane und Olise sind heute richtig on fire und beweisen, dass sie Ballon-d'-Or-Material sind.

just replace tim sweeney with an ai, he already acts like one
Soft launching dynamic pricing through token surveillance
Dario Amodei: some tokens Claude produces are worth a few cents, others could be worth tens of millions of dollars.
His examples:
1. Telling someone to restart their Mac: the model has said it 10 million times, worth a dollar or less
2. Telling a pharma company to move an aromatic ring to the other end of a molecule: potentially tens of millions
3. Expect pay-for-results pricing, or labor-like pricing by the hour
4. It's a new industry, so many models will be tried
Today pricing is simpler: per the S-1, usage-based pricing was 80% of H1 2026 revenue and subscriptions 20%.
