This time last week I was at the
brilliant #TheakstonsCrime. By Sunday, Mum (91) had fallen and broken her knee and is no longer safe to return to her own home 😪
She is doing brilliantly 🌟 (hot pink glitter full leg cast) but navigating the care system is exhausting. 😢

Starting from being an only child in rainy Lancashire through my entire life, books and reading have been a joy and a delight. Huge shout out to our wonderful public libraries and indie bookshops who feed that delight on a daily basis
Did you know that only 50% of UK adults now read regularly for pleasure?
Reading isn’t just about enjoyment—it has profound effects on our health and wellbeing. Join in the #RebootReading campaign and let’s bring back the joy of reading. 📖✨

I have been raving about #TheTrialsofMarjorieCrowe since publication - a bit of a fan-girl of Marjorie's tbh! What an absolute delight it was yesterday to meet @CraigRobertson_ the creator of the wonderful Marjorie and to talk to him about his absolutely brilliant book.
Caught up with the wonderful @JaneCaseyAuthor and equally fab @FionaAnnCummins at Harrogate yesterday. It was great to talk books, libraries and catch up on last year's #AuthorRecommends project in Skipton library. Thank you both for your continuing support 🤗
Took some time out of the programme to let some of the authors who participated in last year's #AuthorRecommends idea worked out in reality.
It was really lovely to chat with @radiomukhers and @imranmahmood777 Thank you both for continuing to support what we do at Skipton library
So lovely to chat with the very kind Mr @VaseemKhanUK about his current and recent reading while
narrowing down his 2 books to recommend to Skipton Library customers. Thank you for spending some time with me to support this library initiative, our customers will love it.
I have had an amazing morning talking to some of the authors who contributed to the #AuthorRecommends project that was conceived at @HarrogateFest 23 for Skipton library customers and is now on tour in 21 branches in North Yorks. Even more authors are participating this year ❤️
What a phenomenal start to today's festival programme. How entertaining and informative was that! Thank you #ChrisCarter and @pussmilligan
Had a really lovely chat last night with @willrdean about books (obviously), recommendations and libraries. Thank you so for taking the time to sit for a natter and for participating in #AuthorRecommend24 at Skipton library.

Good to see the importance of public libraries raised in the House of Commons, and the urgent need to address the funding crisis
Me!
It's almost time for #TheakstonsCrime! Just three more sleeps to go... who's excited?
@Theakston1827 @ed_pr @RuthWareWriter @OldSwanHotel
Last year at @HarrogateFest @TheakstonsCrime 45 authors gave me their top 3 crime reads for Skipton Library customers. The displays have been such a success with customers that #AuthorRecommends is now on tour round 21 libraries in N. Yorks!
Thanks to the authors ❤️
The #AuthorRecommends weekly display in Skipton library has been so successful since it started after @HarrogateFest '23 that it has enabled us to buy books that weren't on the catalogue before and additional copies of books that have become so popular after the displays 1/3
@LucaVeste was the first author I approached at @HarrogateFest '23 and 44 more agreed to give their favourite crime reads. Our customers have really loved the opportunity to take out more titles of the featured author as well as their recommendations, so much so that... 2/3
#AuthorRecommends is going on tour round 21 other libraries in North Yorkshire who wanted their customers to have the opportunity to find out what their favourite crime authors enjoy reading. So a huge thank you to all the authors and to @HarrogateFest for being the best ❤️
The #AuthorRecommends displays from Skipton library came about when I spoke to 45 amazing authors at @HarrogateFest #TheakstonsCrime in '23. Exciting developments on this still to come!
Our new display will give customers the chance to read the FULL #TheakstonsAwards longlist 🤩
This week's #AuthorRecommends at Skipton library comes from @doug_johnstone. As well as showcasing lots of Doug's titles we have his favourites #ComeCloser by Sara Gran and #Drive by James Sallis for our customers to enjoy. Needed to restock the display by the end of day one! 😊
Don't know what anyone else has been up to, but I've had a great day reading this brilliant book by the wonderful @JaneCaseyAuthor
If you haven't read it yet, do! #LibrarianRecommends
