📢Join BADIL and activists from the solidarity and Palestinian movement in Britain to discuss how we build collective power, escalate resistance and impose comprehensive sanctions to end the UK government's complicity.
From genocide and apartheid to colonisation, forced displacement and the denial of Palestinian rights, the UK plays a central role in enabling and sustaining the Israeli regime’s crimes against the Palestinian people.
The first in BADIL Resource Center’s Complicity Files series unpacks the UK’s role in sustaining these crimes and sets out a strategic analysis to confront state complicity through different repertoires of resistance.
🗓️Thursday 22 October- 6pm London time - 8pm Palestine time

BADIL Resource Center for Residency and Refugee Rights releases working paper #34, “Ending Complicity: The Case of the United Kingdom.” From the 1917 Balfour Declaration and the British Mandate through to genocide in Gaza today, the UK’s support for the Israeli regime has always been an integral pillar of its foreign policy. This support has manifested as complicity in an array of crimes, including genocide, apartheid, colonization, forced displacement, and the denial of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights to self-determination and return. This paper is a non-exhaustive examination of UK complicity in Israeli crimes in Palestine, offering a strategic action plan around which the Palestine solidarity movement in Britain may continue to organise. #freepalestine #complicityfiles
BADIL and the Global Palestinian Refugee and IDP Network welcomes the Zionism is Racism motion passed by the Green Party - recognising that:
"The real, material manifestation of Zionism has been the historic and ongoing dehumanisation, displacement, dispossession, disenfranchisement and destruction of Palestinians." and that "Zionism has created and seeks to maintain – and where possible – expand, an apartheid regime between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, designed to cement the supremacy of one group, Jews, over another, Palestinians. As such, Zionism is racist." As well as "right of return for Palestinians and their descendants."
Following the vote on the anti-Zionist policy at Green Party Conference, the 5 Green MPs, the Leader and Co-Deputy Leaders have issued a joint statement

ALT A green background with white text that reads: Joint Statement As Greens, we will always uphold universal human rights. We will never tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment. We will continue to stand in opposition to genocide, ethnic cleansing, apartheid and the illegal occupation. We will continue to call out the heinous crimes of the Netanyahu government. And we will continue to work to ensure that the Green Party is an anti-racist party in every way. We know there is no conflict between supporting the rights of Palestinians and the rights of Jewish people. Israeli impunity does not end when its government changes. It does not end when a court issues its final judgment. It ends when States stop sustaining the regime through military, economic and diplomatic cooperation—and fulfil their obligations to dismantle the structures of dispossession, apartheid and colonial domination.

International law is not a waiting room. States already have obligations to prevent internationally wrongful acts, refrain from assisting them and bring them to an end. Continuing arms, economic and diplomatic relations while invoking “legal processes” does not constitute neutrality. It entrenches complicity.

States cannot hide behind the ICJ’s timeline while Palestinians are subjected to ongoing Israeli crimes. Provisional measures already established the urgency of preventing genocide and issues the legal urgency to stop and prevent genocide. A final judgment is not permission to remain complicit.

Since 1948, successive Israeli administrations have maintained the same structures of dispossession, colony expansion, forced displacement, territorial fragmentation and apartheid. Replacing one administration with another does not dismantle the system of foreign domination and oppression. Nor does it erase the crimes committed.

Since 2023, over 6,500 Palestinians have been displaced due to settler attacks and access restrictions in the #WestBank, with 49 communities fully displaced. On top of casualties and other destruction, 88,000 trees and saplings have been damaged. Full map: ochaopt.org/content/west-ban…
States keep telling the Palestinian people to wait. Wait for Israeli elections. Wait for a “moderate” government. Wait for negotiations. Wait for the courts. While they wait, Palestinians are killed, displaced and dispossessed. It is the political management of Israeli impunity and shielding of their complicity.

44 years since the Sabra and Shatila massacre, when an American-brokered “ceasefire” was followed by the massacre of more than 3,500 Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.
So-called “ceasefires” have repeatedly served as mechanisms through which the Israeli regime and its Zionist allies seek to advance the elimination and denial of return and self-determination of the Palestinian people.
44 years. 78 years. The Nakba is ongoing.
Return is our right and our will.
By not calling on member states to revoke Israeli UN membership, nor suspending the activities of Israeli-Zionist organizations in their jurisdiction, nor invoking Article 99, nor seeking reparations for killing of UN staff and destruction of UN property, the UN tacitly normalizes Israeli crimes and ensures their continuation. The UN is not powerless and can use these measures to mobilize accountability for Israeli crimes. End UN inaction.

The Israeli regime’s denial of access to UN special procedures, committees and personnel has been going on for decades, with no actions taken by states or the UN. With the Israeli-US dismantlement campaign and the Israeli banning of UNRWA becoming a reality, the UN and those that lead it must move beyond condemnations into actions. End UN inaction.

The @UN is not powerless. The UN Secretary General -@antonioguterres - has the authority to:
Call on UN member states to revoke the Israeli regime’s UN membership and to freeze or ban Zionist-Israeli organizations’ activities in their jurisdictions;
Invoke Article 99 of the UN Charter to demand the UNSC address the Israeli regime’s systemic and systematic violations of the UN’s immunities and privileges;
Seek legal remedy and reparations for the killing of UN personnel and the destruction and seizure of UN property.

The failure of @UN member states to act does not excuse the inaction of the UN itself. The historic and ongoing failure of the UN to respond to the Israeli regime’s systematic and systemic violations of its UN obligations serves to ensure the commission of future crimes, and the eventual dismantling of @UNRWA , and the UN system itself.

Calling on the Israeli regime, a serial violator of its obligations as a UN member state, or condemning its actions, serves to ensure the continuation of those crimes and their normalization. When breaches of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations (1946) arise, the UN and its leadership must exercise every measure available to them to protect itself, its organizations, premises and personnel. End UN inaction.
