Another Letter (in my capacity as President of @BAJS17) to the Japanese Ambassador in London - this time about the problems students are facing getting visas to start their studies in #Japan.

Just come across the following survey about the restrictions for entry into #Japan and its impact on those of us who do academic work related to Japan. I would encourage people to take part.

If you're in academia, even if you're not in death studies,I'd recommend listening to this episode. So much great stuff in here. Wonderful to hear Kate speaking on so many things.
Also made me think how much easier the word 遺族 (izoku) is in Japanese compared to "loved ones".
Episode 6 featuring Dr Kate Woodhtorpe from @cendeathsociety @bathsps available wherever you get your podcasts from! Happy listening!

Just discovered this very cool podcast, "Book Lounge Academia." It has interviews with Japanese authors about their books in humanities/social sciences in Japanese. Great way to learn about new scholarship and practice Japanese while commuting!

The Japanese government is still moving too slow on entry for students into #Japan. The article clarifies how students are not a priority, despite the rhetoric when the plan was first announced. The end of May is 3 months away & only gives many students 2 months in Japan. #Sakoku

Picture me doing a slow hand clap. 5,000 to 7,000. Great. But that's still down about 100,000 on the DAILY average in 2019. #Japan needs to do much more to end its #sakoku attitude and restore students' and academics' faith that we should actually continue our work.>
Japan plans to raise the daily limit of people allowed to enter the country to around 7,000 from the current 5,000 in a bid to bring in foreign students ahead of the start of the school year. japantimes.co.jp/news/2022/0…

Very useful episode for those wanting to learn more about family planning and reproductive issues in #Japan. As often the way in the series, it works as a lesson/lecture so helpful for students. @homeiaya is great at explaining things as usual.

Tune in to #BeyondJapan now to look at Japan's history of #FamilyPlanning Policy. @OllieMox is joined by Dr @HomeiAya (@OfficialUoM) to see how attitudes from past medical science impacts birth rates today.
