I have kept quiet through much of the turmoil since the leadership race. I have watched, listened and had many honest conversations.
Through it all, Lorne Doerkson has been a steady hand and someone I could turn to for honest advice when I needed it. He has shown the character, loyalty and leadership our party needs right now.
I fully endorse Lorne as our leader going into this election, and I am prepared to do everything I can to support him and deliver a Conservative government for British Columbia.
To every Conservative member: do not cancel your membership and do not throw in the towel. The game is not over. It has just begun.
It is time to unite, organize and activate across this province. After nine years of NDP decline, British Columbians deserve a government that will make life more affordable, restore our services and get BC moving again.
Let’s get to work, defeat David Eby and make Lorne Doerkson the next Premier of British Columbia.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sept. 21, 2026
STATEMENT FROM JOHN RUSTAD, MLA FOR NECHAKO LAKES
VICTORIA, BC, Sept. 21, 2026 /CNW/ - John Rustad, MLA for Nechako Lakes, issued the following statement after speaking with reporters at the legislature:
Kerry-Lynne Findlay has stepped down as leader. That was the right thing for British Columbia. I thank her for it.
Last week was a hard week. Caucus spoke frankly, as a caucus should. Kerry-Lynne Findlay then made a difficult decision. That decision was hers. I respect it. I am not going back over the rest.
Lorne Doerkson is now interim leader of the Official Opposition. He is a quality individual. A lot of people in this province do not know him yet. They will. He asked me to come back to caucus. This afternoon I accepted. I am returning to do the work, not to run the next chapter from the outside.
If the new leadership wants my help, they will have it. I will not force my old vision onto them. It is time for an older generation of politicians to step aside. That includes former premiers Christy Clark and Gordon Campbell. Their time at the centre is over. They need to let this go. My time as leader is over too. Serving this province is not.
There have been talks about bringing Conservatives and CentreBC back together. Those talks should succeed. This province cannot afford two opposition parties while David Eby measures the timing of an election.
David Eby would rather call an election while this party is finding its feet than defend what his government has actually done. Families in this province already know that record. I have not given up on British Columbia. I do not think the people who live here have either.

Today, I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia.
This was not an easy decision, but I believe it is the right one for our movement and our province.

Hon. Kerry-Lynne Findlay is the leader BC Conservatives elected, fair and square
We urged Eby to stop helping Trump hammer our economy, but that’s not why he delayed the PST expansion.
It’s pure politics. He’s taking it off the table for an opportunistic snap election.
If he wins, the tax hike and the rest of his destructive agenda will continue.

Effective immediately, Trevor Halford, Claire Rattée, and John Rustad will no longer serve as members of the Conservative Party of British Columbia Caucus.
With an election potentially on the horizon, our focus must be on British Columbians and defeating David Eby’s NDP government.
The BC Conservative Party is the only free-enterprise team equipped with a fully funded campaign to take on the NDP, and we need everyone focused on building our movement and preparing to win.
Our caucus and grassroots are ready, and we’re building a strong team of candidates. There’s no room for internal power struggles or vanity projects. If your priority is building the movement, and supporting the Conservative Party of B.C., you are welcome.
Our priority is British Columbians.
After putting small business through months of uncertainty, David Eby has surrendered on his PST expansion out of pure political expediency.
He’s not doing it for you. He’s doing it for him.
Over the next few days, watch him do this on every other issue he thinks he can take off the table before dropping an opportunistic snap election.
NEW - @Dave_Eby says he is delaying a planned PST expansion to professional services, such as accounting and engineering, which was announced in his February budget and has been opposed by the business community.
Says only until "clear of Trump's trade war" to help small bizs.

While British Columbians are already pushed to the brink by an unyielding affordability crisis, David Eby’s NDP is secretly plotting its next cash grab from everyday commuters. In quiet meetings, the Ministry of Finance, TransLink, and the Mayors’ Council are crafting a new vehicle levy and laying the groundwork for road pricing, deliberately hiding the details until after they try to push through a snap election.
This NDP government expects hard-working drivers to foot the bill for fiscal mismanagement while keeping the public completely in the dark. Such secrecy demonstrates a total disregard for the public, treating family budgets as a blank check for government spending.
Families across the province are already struggling to afford groceries, rent, and the basic cost of simply getting to work. The absolute last thing British Columbians need is another government raid on household finances, whether through a new vehicle fee or a charge on the daily commute, just for driving kids to school.
If the NDP is actively drawing up these plans, they need to stop hiding the details and come clean with the public immediately. British Columbians deserve absolute transparency, not a government that keeps the price tag a secret until the voting is over. Taxpayers have a right to know the truth: what exactly is this new vehicle levy, and how much will it cost families across British Columbia?
Voters will not be fooled by a government that hides the price tag today only to stick drivers with the bill tomorrow.
Communities told us loud and clear at UBCM: the NDP is piling more responsibility onto municipalities and using NDAs to keep them quiet at the table.
We’re going in a different direction — one that starts with listening.
