We will be there! Will you?
Let's advocate together for the changes that we know can have a huge impact on patients' lives NOW.
Physician Assistants are working in other provinces in all healthcare settings. Why is the BC MoH limiting their practice settings in BC?!
Join CAPA in Victoria, BC on April 11th for our Advocacy Day! We're rallying for progress in healthcare, calling on the BC government to regulate PAs, support local PA training programs, and expand PA practice into various medical roles.#CanadaNeedsPAs #BCHealth

Physician Assistants could be key members in Specialists Team Care model! 📣
CPSBC bylaws changed to allow PAs to practice, but only in EDs & employed by Health Authorities. This must be expanded, as there are so many healthcare gaps PAs can fill!

And let's work together to establish a PA program in BC. UofC’s first class starts in Sept. We can make it happen in BC too! 🌟

Airlines are disappointing
First - @AirCanada had ops issue that resulted in missed flight
Great they rebooked
Second - tried accessing @WestJet lounge because of “Gold” status
turns out their loyalty is only if you fly with them
Do better 🇨🇦 airlines
Loyalty is more than $

BC health care in a nutshell
@cpsbc_ca amends a bylaw to introduce PAs
MofH makes a working group with HA and a union to discuss scope, compensation..etc
No PAs at the table??
Can’t make this up

🇨🇦 Happy National Physician Assistant Day! 🎉 Celebrating PAs' contributions since the 1950s, from Canadian Military service to nationwide healthcare. Thank you to the 1000+ dedicated PAs.

The only update on physician assistants since adopting the bylaw.
1. Pretty sure there’s no PAs or @CAPA_ACAM at the table to work on the compensation model
2. Lots of policies about PA across 🇨🇦 should be fairly simple
3. Not sure why @cpsbc mentions associate physicians

Addition of advanced practice providers to #HealthCare teams. Optimizing health care teams by including #NursePractitioners and #PhysicianAssistants would increase efficiencies and value for money spent in BC’s health care system. Read the article: bcmj.org/premise/addition-ad…

“Hello College of physicians?”
“Didn’t we just talk yesterday?”
“Yes. We have another issue. Many of our docs are working flat out. Their productivity in the current model can’t really improve further. If anything the workload just isn’t safe for the patients or the doctors.”
“How could we improve productivity and value then?”
“As the ministry of health we want to commit to a rapid introduction of physician assistants. We need to get these highly trained professionals off the side lines and in to the game. Other provinces use them. Other countries use them. We don’t have a structure to license them in BC. That makes no sense.”
“Won’t this cost you way more money? I mean we know team based care makes sense but…”
“We envision a few options. One is to use them to fill roles that we pay physicians to do now. OR assists as an example. That will save money and free up a doctor for other work. We are paying doctors a much higher hourly rate for work they do not need to be doing especially when they are already so overwhelmed.”
“We also want to let specialists hire them. Say a busy Internal Medicine doctor wants to hire a physician assistant to help offload certain parts of work that are better done by a PA. That doctor can extent capacity and productivity. The doctor can pay for that out of their billings. We don’t need to put more money in. That doctor can then focus on more appropriate complex work and shorten waiting times. They also won’t have to rush everything and everyone as much and that will be better quality care.”
“What can we do?”
“We can work together and make this happen. We are going to publicly announce it will be done within the next 60 days.”
“Why 60 days?”
“Because we are in a crisis and the public expects results. Putting a time line on it keeps us accountable. Let’s not say it out loud but a dose of accountability is needed more than ever.”

The fact that PAs haven’t been fast tracked in BC is an abomination. We can’t find surgical assists anymore at our hospital and at some point cases are going to be cancelled because of it. PAs would help GPs in teams enormously! @BCNeedsPAs – at North Vancouver, British Columbia
