Kept as a “temporary” employee for 10 years?! Your fight is our fight @BMAUnion. Solidarity forever

“I worked at BMA for over 10 years before I was able to become a permanent employee. I’ve seen great talent have to make difficult choices and even leave the museum because of the BMA’s practice of hiring temporary employees who are kept on for years before being made permanent.

Why We Need Unions at Art Museums

A colleague once told me “You live better when you work in a union, especially in an art museum because you work for elitists.”

“This is what we do. This is what we love. It's all about the art. It's all about the museum. But we need to be treated fairly and equitably and not just given a thank you," said Laura Albans, a curatorial research associate who has worked at the BMA for nearly 20 years.

In recent months, @waltersunited and @BMAUnion each launched efforts to unionize at their museums. Workers hope to address pay inequity, health/safety concerns (particularly for front-of-house staff) and other issues that were exacerbated by the pandemic. baltimorefishbowl.com/storie…
