Speaker #2 Fatma Rowan Abu Shar @HhHh81346338061 Fatma Rowan Abu Shar, 27, is a mother of three children aged 5, 3, and 9 months who is currently living in a tent with a household of nine people after repeated displacement across Gaza. Before the genocide, she lived with her husband and children in their own home while her husband worked in a grocery store and she was studying journalism. Their home and the grocery store were destroyed, forcing the family to move from Rafah to Al-Mawasi and then Khan Younis. After returning during the ceasefire and setting up a tent on the site of their home, the area was attacked again and the tents were burned, leading to further displacement before they rented a small plot of land for their current shelter. Fatma lives with high blood pressure and diabetes, and she was injured in the hand during the genocide, while her husband suffered lung injuries from shrapnel. One of their sons has a gait abnormality, and their daughter has skin sores that require treatment. Speaker #1 Fatima Kamal @Fatmakq1 Fatima Kamal, 30, is a single woman from Rafah, Gaza, who worked as a fashion designer and ran her own small business before the genocide destroyed her home and livelihood. She now lives in a tent with her parents, four brothers and sister, making eight family members living together, all unemployed and struggling to afford basic necessities. The family has been displaced three times, and their home in Rafah has been completely destroyed, with the land now occupied. Fatima’s father is 84 and suffers from high blood pressure and asthma, with medication costing around $25 a month. He also needs eye surgery to replace his lenses. Her mother has heart disease, diabetes and a slipped disc, and her medication costs approximately $50 a month. Fatima’s eldest brother was also injured during the genocide, but thankfully his condition has improved. In addition to caring for her immediate family, Fatima helps look after her aunt’s children, who are between 3 and 18 years old. Five of them are enrolled in school, but sending one child to school costs around $65 a month, including supplies, which the family struggles to afford. There is no community kitchen in their area, so they must also pay for their own food and drinking water, while the land their tent stands on costs around $35 a month to rent. After losing her business and the life she had worked hard to build, Fatima is doing her best to support her family and the children in her care, but with no stable income and her parents’ medical needs, they cannot manage these expenses alone.
