I have finally written up the talk I gave at @seagl in 2019, "My Own Private Binary", as a standalone essay. Check it out here: muppetlabs.com/~breadbox/txt…
(The writeup includes two cartoons that @Da_Bomberanian drew for me during the presentation.)
I cooked a full breakfast for myself today, something I've never bothered to do. Just woke up this morning and felt like celebrating for some reason.
My daughter convinced me to be in a youtube video. How? By making it about a TRS-80 text adventure. It's been decades since I last visited Adventureland.... youtube.com/watch?v=6ceRlZsp…
The Adventure(land) Continues! Part 2 is now up: youtube.com/watch?v=6k_xuCtw…
It's always a good day when a linguist shares your writing.

Congratulation to @seagl for a wonderful event this year. I'm hoping to make a video of my talk "My Own Private Binary" before too long. In the meantime, here are a set of notes taken by attendee @Da_Bomberanian. #SeaGL2019
Me, packing: Okay, got my pen and notebook, got my books, my laptop. Remembered the charging cables this time! Toothbrush, allergy meds just in case ... is that it? I think that's it.

Oh wait, I need to bring clothes.
My daughter and her friends are furiously creative. Everyone has their own fictional world, filled with strange and hilarious characters, but they also interact with each other. It's this huge, ongoing exercise in collective storytelling — so unlike anything I did at their age.
Daughter and her Mom, while driving in a Tesla:
M: Did you deposit that check?
D: No — I was going to, but I forgot my bank password.
M: Did you try <PASSWORD>?
D: … Uh, thank you for saying my bank password aloud inside an IoT device.
