The Bitcoin network, live. Every transaction, every block, as it happens.
This is a real block being found, captured live. Sound on.
Block 975,000. Sealed by Foundry USA, 30 minutes after the one before it.
75,000 blocks to the halving. 25,000 to block 1,000,000. 58,804 payments waiting for 975,001.

Blocks average ten minutes. This morning, none came for 78. The line of waiting payments more than doubled. Then block 974,677 landed.
Still running.
The difficulty adjusts every 2,016 blocks, about every two weeks. No one votes on it. The code just does it. stillrunning.live

Sealed by @Braiins. Every block gets a name.

Every ten minutes, somewhere on earth. Sound on.

In January 2009, Hal Finney wrote two words: "Running bitcoin." Seventeen years later, this is what that looks like. Two minutes, sound on. Full film on the site.

Before Bitcoin had a price, it had a whitepaper. 18 years ago today, Satoshi published it. Nobody's stopped it since. Thank you, Satoshi. Still running.

About one in four blocks lately gets this name. Here's 973,124 getting sealed by @FoundryServices, exactly the way the network saw it.

This is absolutely mesmerizing and beautiful. Thank you for making this.
Mt. Gox, 2014. Binance, this week. The companies around Bitcoin can fail. Bitcoin isn't a company. Still running.

If you are wondering about the somewhat muted price impact to Bitcoin after last night's Binance hack, for reference, the MT Gox hack of 2014 was ~750K Bitcoin, which was about 30 days of trading volume at the time. Yesterday's Binance hack was 18,270 Bitcoin, or roughly 1/5th of a single day of Bitcoin's trading volume today, making Mt Gox ~167X worse for price impact.
Every bitcoin payment waits until a block seals it. Paste your transaction ID and watch yours. This one was sealed by @ViaBTC.

I like that new visualization too.

It's live. I built a way to experience the Bitcoin network itself. This is a real block being found, captured live. Sound on.
The lights are real transactions, waiting. The higher a transaction's fee rate, the closer it sits to the bright center. That's roughly the next block.
The whole time, miners around the world are guessing. A counter estimates how many guesses they've made since you showed up. You'll see it climb while you watch.
When one of them gets it right, the block is sealed, the pool that found it is named, and it joins every block before it, all the way back to 2009.
You can also paste in your own transaction ID and watch it go from waiting to sealed.
A new block every ten minutes or so, for almost 18 years.
Still running.

Works on a phone, but it's best on a laptop or desktop with the sound on. Live data from @mempool.

It ran while you slept. It ran while you were busy. It ran through every headline that said it was over. Still running. Three days.
