In 1996 @BYUfootball we lost our 3rd game of the season to unranked Washington in Husky Stadium. Huge letdown after beating #13 Texas A&M in Cougar Stadium in the Kick-Off Classic.
LaVell settled us down. Told us to take the L like men and focus on the task still at hand. “Win the league. Win the rest of our games.”
Won the next 11 straight. Won the Holy War. Won the WAC Championship. Won the Cotton Bowl. Became the first NCAA Division I-A team to win 14 games in a single season. Ended up #5 in the country. Probably the best team in BYU history.

This is the fourth time in the Super Bowl era that the 49ers have started 6-0. In each of the three previous seasons they did – 1984, 1990, 2019 – they reached at least the NFC Championship game, before winning the Super Bowl in 1984, and losing it in 2019. Today in Atlanta they are seeking their fourth 7-0 start in franchise history, joining the 10-0 teams in 1948 and 1990, and the 8-0 team in 2019.
