This is why you should wear a mask. Because this is how former friends, colleagues and employers will speak about you when a virus disables you and you no longer have any social, cultural or labor value to extract. Sick, alienated capitalist society
Draymond Green on Kristaps Porzingis: "No one’s sitting around bashing this guy or even worried about him, for that matter. In our minds, we’ve moved forward with the players that we have here... you can’t sit and worry about spoiled milk.” (Via @sam_amick)

When I had Covid in 2024 I mentioned metformin to hospital staff and they LAUGHED at me and said “that’s diabetes medicine and is not ever provided for Covid I haven’t heard of that that’s not true” and I just stared at them blankly, knowing how deeply wrong they were.
Metformin given within a week of COVID-19 slashes risk of long COVID, death by 53%, paper notes If replicated in clinical trials, the observational findings could inform ways to prevent the lingering consequences of infection. Read more: bit.ly/4A5UXCy

“One of the more striking aspects of the pandemic is just how unwilling we’ve been to engage in the collective interventions that could mitigate it. Whether it’s wearing a mask… too many of us have been unwilling to sacrifice our individual choice for the collective well-being.”

Trying to stay alive for the day people realize the disease that’s kept me homebound and mostly bedbound for 2+ years now is actually real and bad
Being right years ahead of others isn’t nearly as satisfying as people think. Nobody apologizes for treating you like a crazy. They just come back years later, repeating what you told them as if it’s some groundbreaking revelation because they finally heard it from someone else.

1. The bottom line: SARS-CoV-2 only emerged in late 2019. No-one can know the long-term effects of repeated infections, but with anosmia and cognitive dysfunction as common symptoms, the assumption I make is that there is a tsunami of early-onset neurocognitive diseases coming.

'Tis the season, once again, where every podcaster, youtuber, tiktoker, content creator is starting their content with "I am soooo sick" and BOY, am I over it! Wear a mask, ya dingdongs. Didn't anyone ever tell you sickness isn't inevitable!?

Yeah did all that, got infected with SARS-CoV2 & I had to kiss all those ‘gains’ goodbye. Wear a respirator & you might have a fighting chance.
Hate to break it to you but not being fat, fixing your sleep, lifting weights, eating a whole food diet, spending time in nature, getting 7-10k steps a day, and not getting easily offended fixes 90% of your problems.

The Olympic sprinter now bedbound 22 hours a day with ME following COVID says she’s fortunate as she’s never met anyone who hasn’t believed in her illness, due to her athleticism prior to falling sick. Clearly, she hasn’t met @awgaffney and @nataliesurely yet!
"A lot of people that have this illness that I've spoken to have said to me 'I don't get believed, people think I'm lazy'. I've never experienced one person that doesn't believe me and that's because, why would an athlete just suddenly stop after 20 years?" Very true.

There’s an article in Time today about how to deal with coworkers showing up sick and the anxiety of “breathing the same air as them” meanwhile the second someone wears a mask it’s an all day punch down fest about how they’re crazy and have OCD make it make sense
"Your colleague has a fever. They make all of this clear as they sit down next to you in that stuffy conference room with a door someone has helpfully just closed. You're concerned about spending the next hour breathing the same air. What can you politely say?" time.com/article/2026/10/07/…

Astonishing to see a media article actually accurately connecting covid infection with POTS onset. 👀
🚨5-FOLD SURGE IN DIAGNOSES OF RARE CHRONIC CONDITION (POTS) SINCE COVID PANDEMIC BEGAN At first, I thought this was going to be another one of those articles we see all too often… …where they get so close to joining the dots but don’t quite make it… lbc.co.uk/article/chronic-il…

These stories are horrific. We NEED AIRBORNE DISEASE PROTECTION. It’s insane that everyone is fine with the equivalent of drinking sewage water all day every day
I had a Pemgarda (COVID PreP mAbs) infusion at an oncology office last week. Only the nurse working with me masked, in a surgical. No other nurses or patients masked. There are no isolation areas. The 2 corner rooms, which have reduced exposure to the staff and patients, were taken by patients on beds. I was told they had "greater needs" than I had because "some have zero counts" (of what wasn't said), though I am a person with double primary immune deficiency. When i asked for protection, they pulled a curtain halfway over my cubicle niche. The patients on beds were not masking. I became symptomatic 3 days later and tested positive the day after that. This was after having had COVID for a month. The infusion center knows patients are severely immune compromised, but their infection control protocol does nothing to prevent airborne transmission! I masked the entire time, but I had to pull up my mask to blow my nose because it was running down my chin. I tried not to breathe, but I was likely exposed at that moment. I started Xocova/ensitrelvir the next day, but it was not enough. I've switched to Paxlovid since the positive test.

i do think it’s funny that in order to rationalize the massive increase in newly disabled/chronically ill people many are resorting to 1800s style hysteria accusations bc the other explanation, that covid is disabling millions, would collapse the narratives they’re clinging to

So it seems there's a misconception on here that Covid informed folks are asking for extreme mitigations or societal-wide closures to prevent long COVID. Most of us just want *any* mitigations. Opening a window or asking doctors to mask for their ER shift isn't a lockdown

In the meantime, here’s some ACTUAL reporting, where the reporting looked at ACTUAL studies in the field and examined the ACTUAL science behind long covid. Progress is being made. You’ll never believe it, but the causes in play are NOT hysteria 🙂‍↔️ smithsonianmag.com/innovatio…

Oooh , watch out, the lady that thinks long covid is caused by being crazy instead of covid is back Bc of course, there’s no way a global pandemic that killed millions would also cause disability. It makes more sense millions of ppl would simultaneously imagine being sick!!
anyway, demands for eternal public masking aren't actually about disability justice — they're about coercing people into accepting an erroneous causal link between mild infection and permanent disability. I wrote this four years ago & stand by every word: newrepublic.com/article/1689…
