During a Queen concert in the 70s, a member of the audience hurled a homophobic slur at Freddie Mercury in the middle of the performance. Unfazed, the charismatic lead singer immediately stopped the show and ordered the lighting crew to shine a powerful spotlight directly on the offender in the crowd. Staring intently at the man from the stage, Mercury bluntly challenged him through the microphone, saying, “Say that again, darling.” Intimidated by the sudden attention of thousands of people, the man remained completely silent.
