The 7th round pick for the #Cubs, Cole Tryba, was one of the most interesting arms in the draft. Nasty lefty sinker (9/-17 at 91, highest sinker whiff% in 2025) and throws a 116 stuff+ 4-Seam (-3.98 t3 VAA).
But, he comes with a caveat that makes him so unique:
He is basically two different pitchers! His avg arm angle on fastballs is ~35 degrees. On offspeed/breaking, it is ~2 degrees. His release heights range from 4.2 feet to 5.0. I am very intrigued to see what the Cubs pitching dept. does about this insane release difference. Do they leave it as is and wait and see if professional hitters pick up on it? Do they choose the low slot and favor funk and breaking ball/offspeed stuff, or stick with the mid slot with exceptional fastball angles+results, while possibly hurting break/offspeed feel?
The feel for spin really isn’t great, but just watching him move down the mound, you can tell the kid is an athlete.
I’m going to be breaking down his full arsenal and range of outcomes in the Cubs #MLBDraft video that I will be publishing in the next few days. I will be posting the link on here when it’s up; stay tuned!
The amount of AI slop that is spewed on these Fox broadcasts is utterly ridiculous. Billion dollar company who can’t hire an animator or graphic designer. Absolutely pathetic.
“Trevor Megill, once a starter for the Mets”
John Smoltz is the worst broadcaster in professional sports. I’m sorry but everything that comes out his mouth is either objectively wrong or just hating on modern baseball.
Freddy is one of just 3 pitchers in all of baseball this year to throw a 4-seam
- at 99 MPH or harder
- w/ 20 or more inches of IVB
- from a 5.2 release or lower.
The other two? Didier Fuentes and Brody Hopkins. Fastball Freddy is in uncharted territory for a starting pitcher tonight.
I mean they didn’t have many options, but for the Guards to have Gavin Williams throw ~30 high intent pitches could bite them on Saturday.

A-Rod just said the Brewers take an “anti-Moneyball approach.” Hell yeah. It’s the Just Saying Stuff Hour over on Fox Sports
Projected top two round pick Tague Davis with a 111 MPH single in his second AB of the University of Louisville vs. Purdue fall game. This swing immediately followed a 102 MPH foul home run.
He set the Louisville single-season home run record last year, with 34. #L1C4
What a miserable end to a pathetic season. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Alex Bregman combine to go 0/15 with 8 strikeouts.
Just absolutely sickening. Can’t even be mad at the pitching staff after tonight. Even the home run was on a great pitch.
Just another day of #Cubs baseball.

Daniel Palencia against left handed-hitters:
.340/.441/.640 w/ a .456 wOBA and 7.6 FIP.
Absolutely brilliant to bring him in against a pocket of left-handed hitters! The Gavin Sheets home runs was a forgone conclusion.
Everytime the camera pans to Craig Counsell he looks like he’s having war flashbacks. I wish it did, but it’ll never work out with this guy.
It’s time to move on after this season.
Is the audio for the Cubs vs Padres game messed up for anyone else? Hearing the pop of the glove before the ball is even halfway to the plate
This Red Sox vs. Yankees pitching matchup is such pure baseball. Two arms with the deepest arsenals in the sport who just pitch.
They combine for 13 different pitch types, and an almost 90% ground-ball rate.
With the #Cubs playing possibly their last home game of the year, (hopefully not 🤞) it officially ends my ridiculous attendance run to close out the regular season. I saved up all summer for the sole purpose of going to as many games as possible after moving in to Loyola, and was able to be at 12 of the last 14 home games, keeping score at every single one. Here's a thread of my 4 favorite games I got to see at Wrigley along with the book!
#1: 9/24, Cubs 2, Marlins 1
Getting to see the Cubs clinch a playoff spot was a dream come true. Seeing Pete steal his 40th base was the cherry on top. Matthew Boyd shoved and Zef slammed the door with his demon hand of god sweepers.
This game was everything I've ever dreamed of when I think of a day at the ballpark. Just pure Wrigley magic. Probably will be the greatest game I will ever witness for the rest of my life. The sort of game you tell your kids about, and they tell their kids about.
