Beginning Monday, October 5, the @BaltimoreDPW will begin withdrawing water from the Susquehanna River to supplement water from the Prettyboy and Loch Raven reservoirs.
Susquehanna water will be blended with Loch Raven water before being treated and tested at the Montebello water treatment plants.
You may notice a slight change in taste, odor or color in your water. It will remain safe for drinking, bathing, and cooking.
The length of time that Susquehanna River water will be used will depend on rainfall, reservoir recovery, and overall water-supply conditions.
The blended water will primarily serve areas supplied by the Montebello plants, including portions of Baltimore County. Areas supplied by the Liberty system are not expected to receive Susquehanna River water.

UPDATE: Crews continue to contain and recover diesel fuel from a leak at a Baltimore County Detention Center generator that reached the Long Quarter Branch tributary and assess a small amount of fuel observed near where the stream enters Loch Raven Reservoir.
Newly obtained tank records and measurements indicate significantly less diesel was released from the generator than the original estimate of 5,500 gallons. The amount is still being verified, and an updated figure will be shared when this work is complete.
The amount released is not the same as the amount that reached the stream. Some fuel may have remained in a holding tank beneath the generator or elsewhere in the drainage system, and crews have recovered fuel from the stream. Responders are examining these locations and reconciling the amounts before determining how much reached Long Quarter Branch.
There is no reported impact to public drinking water or private wells. As a precaution, people and pets should avoid water with a visible sheen or diesel odor. No fuel reached the water system pipes.
