Today is the anniversary of The Battle of Trafalgar, 1805. Somewhere between 3500 and 4000 Irishmen took part in the battle serving on the ships of the Royal Navy. 94 Irishmen were on the crew of Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory. Overall, the Irish made up about a quarter of the Navy's crew strength in that pivotal battle. ☘️

Ireland's government was asked three straight questions and did not give one straight answer. On 15 October Deputy Carol Nolan asked the Justice Minister whether any review had begun after the European Parliament's resolution on Brotherhood networks, which charities, student bodies or groups in Ireland are linked to the group, and whether people tied to it can still raise funds, recruit members and organise events in the State.
The written reply admits the organisation is "under intensifying scrutiny", reminds her it is not on the EU terror list, then says it is "not appropriate to provide further detail". No word on a review, no list, no yes or no on the fundraising.
So, Dublin, can they still collect the money or not?
BTW, the Muslim Brotherhood is banned in the UAE.

The Palestinian flag is an exercise in semiotics, writes Patrick West in Spectator Coffee House. It has become much more than an emblem of support for the aspirant state of Palestine: it now symbolises hatred and rejection of Western civilisation.

The solution to this hysterical Sally Rooney mini-drama lies entirely in Sally Rooney's hands. All she has to do is say she will not give money to a proscribed organisation. It's that simple. This week's piece. independent.ie/comment/eilis…

Yes, I know that my last column for the Befast News Letter about why I'd had it with Ireland coincidentally turned out to be unwittingly my last as the paper continued its cull of unionists, but yesterday the Daily Telegraph asked me how I felt about Ireland and the Jews and I wrote this:
