It has been 5 weeks since my sweet dog had to be put down because he was not eating, walking and showed no interest in anything. He is missed immensely and the house is so quiet. Rest in love, my sweet boy.
Happy Birthday to Brahms and Tchaikovsky. Both share sheer beauty in their music and each one wrote stunning violin concertos. Happy Birthday to our dear so who shares a birthday with these giants.
The legendary and iconic American conductor, composer and pianist, Michael Tilson Thomas has died. MTT was a music legend in Los Angeles and California where I first met him in the early 1970. His contributions were many in American music. May his memory inspire us always.
I’m about 3 weeks, the brilliant French pianist, Alexandre Kantorow, will be coming to Disney Hall to play the Rachmaninoff Piano Sonata No 1. This will be the first time this work is played at this venue and my first time hearing it performed live. I am beyond excited! ❤️

It has been awhile since posting. Today, I heard this absolutely gorgeous sonata no 2, opus 129 by Brahms for clarinet and piano. It is breathtaking. Here is the first movement with McGill and Chen:

Happy Birthday, Max Bruch. Many do not realize that despite the immense popularity of his first Violin Concerto, Bruch actually wrote 3 concertos for the violin. His Violin Concerto NO no 2 has beautiful romantic melodies:

Happy Birthday, George Gershwin! He was a pianist, composer, songwriter who experimented with jazz of the times. He left this world day too soon.
When talking with my cousin today, who is a pianist, he reminded me how we used to love this Prokofiev PC No 2 with French pianist, Michael Bering. There is a ghoulishness about it but it is a good recording and interpretation from the 1970s with Masur youtu.be/LQ7gveAhPcI?si=ZYYB…
Rachmaninoff plays Tchaikovskys Lullaby, Opus 16. Such a dreamy piece, which is very Russian and played in a way one’s words cannot describe.
