Amy Acton’s estranged mother knew her husband had a daughter from a previous marriage who’d also accused him of rape.
But when 12-year-old Amy told her mom that he was raping her, instead of concluding she was married to a pedophile rapist she concluded both girls were lying.

Enjoying the mini-uprising against a foie gras ban in DC, based partly on annoyance that in a city with many big problems, it’d devote resources to Pâté Patrol. Yer telling me when gov’t gets expansive & involved in stupid side quests, it ill serves citizens in its core duties?

Why would anyone vote for a candidate who airs television ads repeating the lies of a child rapist?

All this talk of a ballroom to service the super wealthy while the rest of us continue to pay more for healthcare and basic essentials makes me think of this powerful political cartoon from 1906, the artist is William Balfour Ker.

DC's CFO slide showing 12k DC tax filers pay 42% of the income taxes seemed to shock😲some...
Wait til folks learn 33% of tax filers earning > $100k pay 86% of DC's income taxes‼️
One of the fantasy arguments from the Clowncil's 🤡revenue raising hearing was DC will attract residents due to its AWESOME SERVICES! So, attracting residents who consume lots of $$$$ funded by a dwindling number of residents who pay for it is the answer...got it🤦

The Council can argue for more revenue, but they should be honest with Washingtonians and accurately describe our current tax system, which is already progressive. Households earning $200K and above pay 2/3 of District income taxes.

It’s a big day in the D.C. Council, where lawmakers will hold a hearing on a bunch of possible tax hike ideas. The context is important: The city is facing up to a $800 million deficit next year, economy is down, and a mayor-to-be made big promises: washingtonsun.com/metro/dc-c…

Why doesn’t every DC Council member say this? Nobody should have to leave office to call for more effective spending. Treating taxpayer dollars responsibly shouldn’t count as a conservative talking point in local politics. Council must do better.
CM @AnitaBondsDC said we need to have a government that uses fewer dollars. "I'm leaving the Council, so I can say that," Bonds said, prompting smiles from her colleagues.
DC Mayoral candidate Rhonda Hamilton said that JLG's association with Democratic Socialists of America is not in the best interests of DC residents. “I always saw her as being a puppet to their agenda,” she added.

For years, many people --myself included-- have called BS on these so-called violence interruption programs.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For years D.C. has held out hope that violence interruption programs would meaningfully decrease shootings and killings. A recent study finds they may have done the opposite. Now the fate of the entire initiative is up in the air, reports @jennygathright: washingtonsun.com/metro/dc-v…
I also wrote in The DCLine.org about the RCV voter suppression issue on Sept.19 in a piece on the at-large race. E. Silverman lamented the change: Is the DC Council at-large race in the general election mostly a fight among progressives? – TheDCLine.org
