This is coaching. Know the difference between a player who needs accountability and a player who needs encouragement. Not every mistake deserves the same response. Understand the individual, meet them where they are, and help them become the best version of themselves.
Nick Saban explains the difference between a mistake that deserves getting chewed out and one that deserves encouragement “I always sort of had a lot of respect for the fact that any player that’s a competitor wants to do well. And I think when you start with that, you have a better perspective because you look at things from their perspective, not your perspective. And I think that’s very helpful.” “Sometimes when guys are not doing intangible things, whether it’s giving effort or focusing or making mental errors or things that they can actually control, that is something that you can’t tolerate. And you really want to maybe sometimes get after a guy a little bit for it.” “But when guys are doing those things and just not having success, I think that’s when you want to pat them on the back and get them to believe in themselves and have an understanding if they continue to do things the right way, they will eventually have success.” “And every player’s different. Sometimes you got guys that are obsessive-compulsive type personalities that are really hard on themselves, and I don’t think you need to get on those guys because they’re already getting on themselves.” “Then you have other guys that may not be self-starters, and you got to push them a little bit more to get them to be what they’re capable of being. I think all those things were factors in how you kind of approach a player and try to get him to be the best he can be.” “I always tried to focus on the individual and not look at it like one size fits all, and try to take the best approach with that particular guy to help him have success.”

If you have kids playing baseball, this is worth reading. Somewhere along the way, we started acting like every kid has to play travel ball. The truth is, for many families, the best baseball memories are still made with your hometown team and your best friends. You play all spring together, and leagues like ACME let those friendships continue well into the summer. Not every kid needs to chase showcases or tournaments to have an incredible baseball experience. Sometimes the best development happens while competing with the friends you’ve grown up with. Those are the memories that last a lifetime.
Travel ball is a runaway train. We are never going to compete schedule-wise with it. But what we can do is put on a really great State Tournament every summer, for ACME baseball. @AcmeCongress Know what you are, do it well, and let the experience speak. open.substack.com/pub/beccaw…

You have to pay it or your kid won't get to a power 5 and all of the access to coaches and training. I wish we tracked this information to show parents. Play local and you will be just fine.
Y’ALL PAY IT! Stop! Play local. Your kid isn’t in a better position bc he plays in these tournaments. You keep paying, they keep charging. We charge $0 to get into our park AND we’ve been asked to. Not charging parent to watch their kids. $100 an age. 13 should pay $1300

Such a true statement!!
Legion is built different. You can’t pay to play. You earn it. And we play a real tournament! Unlike others where you play your games & go home, postseason is survival of the fittest. True double-elimination, local pride on the line, & you have to win to stay alive. 😤

That’s the difference between people who talk about goals and people who actually reach them. Feelings change daily. Commitment doesn’t.
Mike Bianco said, "Once your commitment is greater than your feelings, that's when you get results. That's when it happens for you." Most people never figure this out. Commitment is a choice. It's choosing long-term growth over short-term comfort.
