More human beings are forced to migrate today than at any other time in human history. More than 216 million people across six continents will be on the move within their countries by 2050 in large part due to climate change, according to the World Migration Report 2024.

The EU-funded ARCRISK, a project that investigates the impacts on health in the Arctic and Europe, modelled the potential impact of climate change on long-range transportation of environmental contaminants in the atmosphere. #Health #Europe

Sudden heavy rain has triggered mass floods in #Sarasota, #Florida. The record breaking downpour hit Sarasota with an unexpected high volume of rain, nearly 4 inches of rain in just one hour, making it the most ever in an hour according to @CBSNews senior weather producer @DPartlyCloudy. This event is claimed to be a once in a thousand years event, but it might happen again within 24 hours according to Parkinson. @NHC_Atlantic now predicts there is a 20% chance for the low pressure system over Florida that is causing these erratic weather events to develop in to a tropical storm. With rising global temperatures, extreme weather events like this one are predicted to become more common. Chuck Tatham, founding director of our partner organization @BasecampClimate said: “Florida’s Gulf Coast — where I’ve vacationed for decades, enjoying the spectacular beaches and tropical wilderness — is in real peril. Yesterday in Sarasota, Florida four inches of rain fell in ONE HOUR, a 1-in-1,000 year weather event that resulted in catastrophic flooding. I hope my wonderful memories of this place aren’t all I’m left with, because if we don’t slow climate change this beautiful region will be under water."
