a few words about my thinking around amplifying clanker builders and tokens from this account.
first of all: builders need distribution more than anything else.
I know, because I’ve been one myself, and I’ve spent years in the onchain trenches with builders and traders alike.
it’s one of the easiest things to give, and it’s functionally free…. yet most ecosystems and ecosystem leads fail to do it properly.
and that’s probably because they’re scared.
they’re scared to accidentally promote a rug, or a soft rug, or an outright scam. which, fair enough. it’s a minefield out there, and in the golden age of AI slop, some of the mines are difficult to sweep.
but I’m not scared.
I’ll do my best to vet new projects before amplifying them here. I’ve already been actively reaching out to builders to open comms and make sure they can get the support they need to build for the long term, and will continue to do so.
I’ll share clanker eco projects that I think are promising because those builders deserve the initial attention, and the opportunity to earn more of it over time (scarce asset that it is). And I’ll share memes with good teams because memes are entertaining and it would be super boring around here without them.
I’ll continue to buy some of these tokens on my public fomo as a signal of support too, and I won’t sell them.
But despite all that, some of these won’t work out, and that’s ok.
we’re all adults here and we understand the game we’re playing: the speculative attention game.
but speculative attention games that can allow real builders to bootstrap real projects they otherwise could not build, so that’s pretty based.
I think there’s a whole hierarchy of “free” distribution that can eventually be earned in this eco, including follows and shares from the @clanker_world account, other @base leaders, etc. I’ll also work on a plan for how these kinds of “vouches” can be earned over time.
but as for me and this account, my top priority is to lift up clanker builders, old and new. I’ll do my best to curate them carefully and give them a chance to earn your longer term support (or not).

Clanker: Reboot.
2 years ago (almost to the day), Clanker was born over on the original Farcaster app. The idea was simple: Make it possible for anyone to launch a token just by posting on the timeline and tagging @clanker_world.
The timing was right, and it caught on like wildfire. Suddenly, even people who never thought they’d launch a token were trying it out in the feed. (I even clanked my first meme token on day 1 to see how it all worked. If you search hard, you can probably find it.)
Over the ensuing year, Clanker went on a genny run, expanding from Fc to the X feed and becoming the highest volume launchpad on @base by far, birthing some of the most iconic tokens & token communities of that era, including BNKR, DRB, FAIR & more.
So many builders on Farcaster & beyond turned to Clanker to bootstrap their ideas & find their first 1,000 true fans. Legends like @0FJAKE, @AtownBrown, @david_tomu and @darkohh clanked tokens for their projects. Some, like @MLeeJr, even took it upon themselves to clank tokens for OTHER people’s projects.
And when @netnose and I decided to build a gacha app for creator discovery, we clanked our native token on day one too.
There’s just always been something fundamentally OP about clanking tokens right in the feed. Social graph integration remains undefeated in the attention economy.
But despite all this pedigree & lore, Clanker has had… a rough time lately, to say the least. Between early founder drama, the sale to Farcaster and the eventual handoff to Neynar, Clanker’s been like a teenager who hasn’t been allowed to finish a full year at the same school. How can you even make friends like that?
Hopefully, that all changes today.
Clanker is in good hands now with @masknetwork (stewards of Firefly and Lens Protocol), and they’ve partnered with one of the best engineering teams in the space to give Clanker a much-needed Reboot. More on that soon, but in the meantime…
I’m excited to announce that I’ve accepted the role of Clanker CEO and will be taking on the challenge of guiding our beloved tokenbot back to its former glory.
Transparently, this wasn’t a decision I took lightly. I’ve been self-employed since I was 17, and always preferred to work on things I founded myself. But Clanker has held a very special place in my heart since day 1, and I feel like the little guy’s been a victim of circumstance for much of the past 18 months. He deserves a second chance at romance, and I’m honored to be the one to lead the charge.
I’m also grateful to everyone who helped make Clanker what it is today. To Proxy and Jack for the founder energy, to Base and Farcaster for backing the ecosystem, to communities like DRB and Bankr for keeping it alive, and to @ProfWerder & @age_shulman for their stewardship too. The fact that this little tokenbot has survived all these seasons is crazy in its own right. We stand on the shoulders of giants.
Much more to come from me soon, but here are my main priorities to start:
- Reboot and refresh the Clanker brand without losing its special je ne sais quoi.
- Work with our socials guru @stanisloou to keep comms fresh and clean.
- Work with our engineering team to bring clanker features up to parity with modern launchpads (stock pairs, new chains and even day one support for _______)
- Rebuild the trust that has been lost with both builders & trenchers through all these transitions.
- Show up for OG communities who are still here building and shipping two years later.
- Bring new launch energy back to Clanker & back to the feed, where distribution is built-in by default.

lots of conversations about base over the last week. wanted to share my candid take after a week of listening and a lot of reflection over the last 6 months.
first off - in case it’s not obvious, the first quarter of 2026 was a punch in the face. I spent 2024 and 2025 making a two pronged bet to bring base to the world: (1) builders would unlock the next wave of crypto adoption; (2) adoption would be driven by new onchain-native social experiences - creators, content, messaging. imo we made the right bet on builders, but obviously the wrong bet on social. builders did drive the next wave of crypto adoption - prediction markets, perpetuals, stablecoins - but social was not at the center of it. in fact, the entire social side of the market that many of us had been building towards - farcaster, zora, miniapps, and yes, creator coins - disintegrated completely. I was wrong - whether it was timing wrong (is $ansem a creator coin?) or fully wrong, only time will tell, but regardless, i was definitively wrong.
the collateral damage was pretty bad! and this year has been an exercise in eating shit. we realized how our focus on social had meant that base had fallen behind in key areas that were now increasingly critical - we had perps (shoutout avantis!) and prediction markets (shoutout limitless!), but both were well behind scaled competitors. and we had a lot of room to improve in unlocking base as a platform for tokenization and payments that really worked for enterprises. people lost confidence, and CT spectators reminded me weekly of all of my mistakes as often as they could. it felt bad man, still feels bad.
but if there’s one thing i’ve learned from the last decade of building in this space, it’s that when things feel the worst, the best thing to do is just put your head down and build. so that’s what i’m doing. I refocused my time and attention back to the chain away from the app, started writing code again, shipped a bunch of stuff (azul, beryl, b20, privacy, ledgers) and questioned a bunch of my assumptions: does crypto need social to grow? does base need an app? can base be bigger than coinbase?
I thought for a long time that social was the only thing that could drive the sort of viral growth to get crypto to a billion people. unsurprisingly, I now believe that’s wrong. It’s clear that better money is more than enough - we are seeing this live with stablecoins, predictions, perpetuals, tokenization and i only expect it to accelerate. I am now focused on bringing a billion people onchain just by making global finance actually work.
on the app, my focus is on building base into the blockchain for global finance. to that end, i’ve handed the base app back to the coinbase mothership, where my now good friend @cobie will be taking it from here to make it the best damn app for onchain you’ve ever seen, including expanding beyond the base ecosystem in ways that tbh i won’t love as the leader of base.
it’s incredibly hard to grow a decentralized network inside of a big public corporation. and i feel like much of the discourse on CT over the last week is downstream of this. the following things can be true: (1) base (and i) love memes and (2) brian probably won’t ever bullpost memes on the tl (this activity is illegal once you’re over 40 years of age). it’s weird and we’re working through it as we continue to decentralize base, which has been our commitment from the beginning.
we’re going to build base into the blockchain for global finance and do everything we can to be the place that the world’s money settles over the next century. we will surely have formidable competitors (welcome robinhood and stripe!) and people may abandon our cause, but we welcome the competition and believe it’s our duty to win the respect and commitment of those who rally to our banner.
in 2026, this concretely means three things: winning trading, payments, and agents.
