By Leonid Darmenov.
Bitte denken Sie daran:

In one of the most landlocked and arid places on Earth, China has built a seafood industry. More than 1,000 fish farms now dot Xinjiang, producing roughly 200,000 tons of salmon, shrimp, bass, carp, crab, and other seafood each year. Some farms tap brackish groundwater beneath the Taklamakan Desert and chemically adjust it to mimic seawater. State media calls the achievement the “Blue Miracle”—proof, in Beijing’s telling, that technology can overcome geography. But the transformation of Xinjiang into a seafood frontier is also entwined with a much older government project: reshaping the region’s economy, population, and workforce.
The Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, a powerful state-linked organization sanctioned internationally over alleged human-rights abuses, partially or fully ran at least 50 fish farms in Xinjiang by the end of 2024, collectively producing more than $290 million in seafood. State-backed companies have offered villagers loans, jobs, housing, and investment shares while propaganda campaigns celebrate herders “stepping onto fishing boats.” Tianyun, one of the region’s showcase companies, produces about 40 percent of China’s domestically raised salmon and exports seafood abroad. Tianyun has categorically denied any involvement in forced labor, saying it protects workers’ rights and provides competitive compensation. At the same time, China’s broader seafood sector has faced scrutiny over state-sponsored labor transfers, restricted access for independent investigators, mislabeling of fish, and illegal levels of antibiotics and sedatives found in some farmed products.
The larger paradox lies in the feed. Raising fish in the desert may reduce dependence on China’s crowded coast, but many farmed species still require fishmeal made from wild fish caught at sea. China already imports more than 40 percent of the world’s fishmeal, a share projected in a 2023 UN report to rise to 55 percent by 2032. As one ocean expert put it, China may want “food autonomy,” but achieving it also requires “feed autonomy.” Xinjiang therefore turns a national food-security ambition into a global supply-chain problem: Sophisticated ponds can be built in the desert, water can be recirculated, and fish can be raised thousands of miles from the ocean, yet much of the system still depends on extracting protein from fisheries elsewhere.

This is quite something ! Serbian RTV channel starts yesterday's bulletin by apologizing to viewers👇

Storm #Boelo, the second storm in a three-part series following Austen, is rapidly deepening on its approach to Ireland and the UK.
This storm is different than Austen in both size and intensity. Boelo will not only be stronger and larger, but it will also affect Northern Ireland, Scotland, and northern England much more than the far south.
The strongest winds reach land late this afternoon and evening as the center of the storm gets closer and closer.
A broad Amber Wind Warning was issued by the UK Met Office across Scotland, northern England, and Northern Ireland due to winds between 60-70 mph and gusts to 80 especially in exposed areas.

LATE NOVEMBER / EARLY DECEMBER
First cold spell?
Recent modelling has been suggesting the potential for a very early (record breaking, in fact) major sudden stratospheric warming, this is when the usual westerly circulation above the Arctic reverses to easterly, whilst the likelihood of this remains uncertain, there are other key global drivers beginning to emerge.
During early November the MJO is now forecast to emerge into the east Indian Ocean and begin progressing eastwards through the Maritimes and into the Pacific as November progresses, this will trigger a renewed rise in AAM tendency (within an already very high AAM base state, thanks El Nino!), given the lag times involved with any potential SSW downwelling, the MJO triggered rising AAM and progressing into the Pacific, you could perhaps make a reasonable prediction that the later part of November / early December would increasingly be favourable to amplification of high pressure and high latitude blocking episodes. i.e, is this perhaps the first signal of an early cold spell beginning to materialise?
A few weeks ago you'd have been pretty bold to call anything other than a +NAO, Atlantic dominated pattern through November & December, the tide does appear to be changing on that idea.
Regardless of any SSW, the possibility of a coherent MJO cycle + rising AAM would have been shifting the thinking anyway, an early SSW probably wont hurt in helping that idea along..
SUMMARY:
The likelihood of blocking / colder outbreaks late November into early December appears to be growing some traction on the back of latest developments.
Whilst a milder, unsettled & stormier outlook had been anticipated for that period initially, new developments are starting to suggest other possibilities.

What is Food for Feed?
Aquaculture was meant to relieve pressure on the oceans. By raising fish, fewer would need to be taken from the wild—or so the logic went. In practice, the opposite has occurred.
Often touted as sustainable, the industry has a dark secret: Excluding bivalves, most farm-grown seafood is raised on other seafood. More than a fifth of all marine life removed from the oceans is used for non-human consumption, especially feed for fish farms. And demand for farm-raised fish is increasing. More than half of the seafood eaten globally comes from aquaculture, which is a $313-billion industry, the fastest-growing segment of global food production, and often touted by development agencies as the future of sustainable protein.
