28 AUGUST 2021... THE LAST BRITISH TROOPS LEFT AFGHANISTAN Five years ago today, the final British military flight left Kabul. It brought to an end almost 20 years of British military involvement in Afghanistan. Over 12 months of my own youth were spent there. Two tours. Different times, different roles, but a country and experiences that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Like thousands of others, I went because that was the job. We served alongside some incredible people, made friendships that will last a lifetime and saw things that are difficult to explain to anyone who wasn't there. More than 150,000 British personnel served in Afghanistan. 457 British personnel lost their lives. Whatever your opinion of the war, the politics or the way it eventually ended, those numbers represent real people. Sons. Daughters. Fathers. Mothers. Brothers. Sisters. Friends. For many veterans, Afghanistan isn't something in a history book. It was part of our youth. And for 457 of our own, it was where their future ended. Today we remember them. Lest We Forget. ❤️🌹

June 17th 1982: Some 5,000 Argentine soldiers are now onboard the SS Canberra and another 1,000 will board MV Norland tomorrow to be sent home. Argentina still refuses to admit the ships, even claiming it will bomb them, but Britain calls their bluff and goes anyway....

What are the Rules of Engagement?🤔 Well, they determine when and how military personnel are authorised to use force. The rules for the UK have been adapted again following the Defence Secretary's announcement that the Navy's RoE will be changed🔗⬇️ youtu.be/0kBSLgZ482E?si=CZVB…

I feel a need to comment seeing this explode on Twitter this morning and again this is NOT about politics for me, this is about service. I HATE politics. 😡 Fred Thomas is an ex Royal but served for 7 years and left in the last year….so 2016-2023??? There has been very little combat within that time, he wears a Queens platinum jubilee and Kings coronation medal. He may have been attached to SFSG but that is NOT special forces, just ask anyone who has completed selection trust me….I’ve seen and read interviews where he fails to correct people who assume he was special forces. This is very insulting to those who have served in combat or on SF. We should all be extremely proud of anytime in the service if we have served, but we should never lie about it or elevate it to win favour. Whether the press are the main culprits or not, he has a voice and could quite easily correct this narrative if he wishes too, but for me this says a lot about his character. Open to be corrected by anyone who has served along side him of course. Just my initial thoughts.

No, it is not hilarious. Gwendolin and Jeremy made a 180 mile round trip for this, paid for tickets and were thrown out, rendering the whole exercise useless. We are trying to save the planet, why would people want to stop us?? Stupidity, that’s why. 🟠

Drone operators should fly responsibly and avoid flying their drones near emergency services helicopters that are dealing with incidents. We've seen an increase in incidents where drones disrupted emergency helicopter flights, including air ambulances. ➡️caa.co.uk/newsroom/news/uk-c…

𝐃𝐎𝐆 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐀𝐍𝐒 𝐃𝐎𝐍’𝐓 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊 Suella Braverman is seeking "urgent advice" on banning American XL bullies after a dog attacked an 11-year-old girl in Birmingham. But banning the breed wouldn’t work. Even if they tried, it would be ineffective, expensive, and likely do more harm than good. Why? 1. Because “XL Bully” isn’t a breed American XL bulldogs aren’t recognised as a breed, but rather are a combination of bulldog-types which are bred to have certain characteristics. They have no specific DNA markers, and banning them would almost definitely lead to an inadvertent ban on other American/crossover bulldog breeds. When pit bull terriers were banned, this led to the destruction of thousands of dogs who had never bitten or even shown violent tendencies. Some weren’t even pit bull terriers, but crossover breeds who the police “thought” resembled pitties. So they seized them and killed them — sometimes, even setting them on fire — without even informing their owners. 1000s of innocent animals were murdered. Not because of their actions, but purely because of their breed (or because they resembled a banned breed). 2. Every dog is capable of causing injury XL bullies aren’t the only large dog breed involved in recent attacks. While there has been a rise in the popularity of XL bullies — leading to irresponsible ownership and unsafe breeding practices — they aren’t the only ones. Last March, a family’s Siberian Husky mauled their 3-month-old baby to death. Based on figures from Mersyside Police, Jack Russells were listed as the most likely breed to bite. Rottweilers and German Shepherds account for over 15% of all dog-related deaths. By that logic, should we also ban them? Of course not. Because banning breeds doesn’t work. Every dog has the potential to cause harm if they are left in the hands of an irresponsible owner. Even if the Government did ban XL bullies, people would continue keeping them and breeding them illegally, thereby worsening the risk of harm as the animals would be unregulated and sold black-market. Animal charities have also criticised the logic behind breed-specific bans, with the RSPCA saying this in response to calls to ban XL bullies: "Breed is not a reliable predictor of aggressive behaviour in dogs. Every dog has the potential to bite. As we look to reduce dangerous dog incidents, we need solutions that promote responsible pet ownership, tough sanctions for those who wilfully use dogs to frighten and intimidate people and other animals will also be key." The only way to stop dangerous dog attacks is by handing out stricter sentences, clamping down on backyard breeding + stopping dangerous owners from keeping pets. Reintroducing mandatory licensing for domestic dogs would also go a long way in monitoring the behaviour and care of pets, though this presents its own problems re. implementation. But the TLDR is clear: Greater regulation and oversight is needed, but breed-specific bans simply don’t work. Restrict the owner, not the breed.
