This is an original teleprint message declaring the end of the war which was kept by mother, strictly against regulations. Appropriate for @veday80

The #BattleofMons took place in August 1914. The following month, #ArthurMachen wrote The Bowmen story in which phantom bowmen from #Agincourt came to the aid of the British. So began the #AngelofMons myth. This waltz was published in 1916

Last night I went to a lecture on the impact of the Hampton Court Conference of 1604. The lecturer brought along several contemporary documents including the Basilikon Doron of 1603. The original owner provided a brief index which may interest @indexers

Just in case you have a tank lying around... this may be useful should we experience another 'big freeze'. Seen at the beautiful #MinterneGardens

Another small indexing gem. Did you know @indexers that the nutritional physiologist, Isabella Leitch (1890-1980), worked on the UNESCO co-ordinating committee on abstracts and indexing of the medical and biological sciences after WWII?

In spite of torrential rain, wind and frost, this greeted me in the garden this morning - and there is another nearby. No comment on my pruning skills...I blame it on the weather...

PS. Janet Hogarth Courtney's brother was David Hogarth, archaeologist and friend of T.E. Lawrence. He was also keeper of the @AshmoleanMuseum in succession to Arthur Evans. David also knew Gertrude Bell, a close friend of Janet's.

Next year it will be 70 years since one of the great, forgotten @indexers died. Her name? Janet Hogarth Courtney (1865-1954), chief indexer of the 11th edition of @Britannica cross-referencing 30,000pp in less than 6 months, a half a million separate entries.
