Brookfield Corporation is the parent of Brookfield Asset Management, the company Mark Carney chaired until January 2025.
Carney still holds Brookfield stock options and share units in a blind trust. His ethics screen walls him off from 103 entities, Brookfield's included.
Then McKenna tells viewers "our prime minister has been very circumspect." 🤦🏻♂️

Viewers are left with the impression they’re hearing from a neutral former diplomat, not the current chairman of one of the world’s largest asset managers with deep connections to the PM. No mention that Carney still stands to gain advantageously from two specific Brookfield funds

This morning, I took an Uber. The radio was discussing today's Bank of Canada interest rate announcement.
I told the driver I think they'll raise rates by 25 basis points.
His response caught me off guard.
“Has this country gone mad? Are they trying to put everyone on the streets? There's no demand out there. People are struggling.”
Then he told me something I'll never forget.
The other day, he came across a homeless man and gave him his lunch.
He said, “At least I can work and make some money. I can buy myself another lunch later. That man has no money, no food, nothing.”
That conversation stayed with me.
When an Uber driver understands the human cost of this economy better than the people making the decisions, you have to wonder how disconnected we've become.
This is where Canada is today.
