IRANIAN STATE TV BROADCASTS NUCLEAR EMERGENCY GUIDELINES
Iranian state television and news agencies have aired instructions telling citizens what to do in the event of a nuclear strike.
The guidance includes:
• Do not look directly at the intense flash.
• If caught outdoors, take cover behind a barrier, lie flat and protect your head and face.
• Once the blast wave passes, enter the nearest building. Do not stop to watch or film, and do not shelter inside a vehicle.
• Move to a basement or the central part of the building, away from windows and exterior walls.
• Close doors and windows and turn off air conditioners and ventilation systems that draw in outside air.
• Remove outer clothing without shaking it, seal it in a plastic bag and keep it away from others.
• Shower with lukewarm water and soap. If that is not possible, wash exposed skin with water or wet wipes.
• Use bottled water and packaged food, and prepare to remain sheltered for at least 24 hours.
• Do not assume it is safe to leave after 24 hours. Follow official emergency instructions.
• If the building catches fire or is at risk of collapse, move to a safer shelter.
• Families are advised to review these instructions in advance.
