5 weeks. Measurable progress. 📈⚽️
Some great improvements in speed and power with a professional footballer over just 5 weeks of structured strength & conditioning.
📈 Top speed: 29.1 → 31 km/h
📈 CMJ: 37.8 → 40.1 cm
A good example of what can be achieved with consistent, individualised training focused on the physical demands of football.
Regardless of the level you’re playing at, having a structured plan that targets your individual needs can make a real difference to your performance.
I’m currently taking on footballers for online strength & conditioning coaching.
If you’re looking to improve your speed, strength and power on the pitch, drop me a DM to find out more. 📩
CHARLIE BURTON - Bromley Fc on loan to Roffey FC
I saw Charlies first ever men’s football appearance at 15 (in fact I played in it). At the time I was coaching him after his release from the pro game and we needed a GK for a friendly against a semi pro side.
This season he’s now making his debut at step 5 at what is still a very young age where he’s continuing to learn and develop on loan from Bromley.
When I met Charlie he was a young teenager, still learning his coordination, how to move more efficiently & finding his feet with his strength training. All this helps develop a young football, no more their position.
As a GK, the difference you can make on the pitch from what you do in the gym is not to be underestimated.
🚨 STOP LETTING CHATGPT PLAN YOUR TRAINING.
Imagine you’re warming up on the pitch before a game and you look over to see the opposition doing press-ups. If it gets something so simple wrong, what else will it do.
Yet ask ChatGPT and it’ll happily recommend it and make it sound like expert advice.
ChatGPT doesn’t sit down with you every week to find out how you’re feeling, how training went, how your body is responding or what needs changing.
It doesn’t watch you move, identify your weaknesses or know when to push you harder and when to pull things back.
Good coaching isn’t just about writing exercises on a page.
It’s about having conversations, monitoring progress, making adjustments and understanding the individual.
Just because ChatGPT gives you a confident answer doesn’t mean it’s the right answer for YOU.
Stop confusing AI-generated workouts with actual coaching and see the difference in results ⚽️
Firstly, stop just getting your kid jumping around and calling it “plyometrics”.
Before increasing the height, intensity or volume of their jumps, they need to be able to control the movements and tolerate the forces you’re asking them to produce and absorb.
Resistance training has well-established benefits for young people when it’s appropriately programmed and supervised. And no, that doesn’t mean having kids constantly testing 1-rep maxes.
It means learning good movement patterns, developing sound technique and progressively increasing resistance as their ability improves.
Plyometrics absolutely have their place but they shouldn’t exist in isolation.
Strength gives young athletes a foundation to produce force, absorb force and develop power.
Build the foundations. Then progress the intensity.
TOP SPEED ISN’T EVERYTHING ⚡️
Football isn’t just about how fast you can run.
It’s about how quickly you can access that speed.
(yes that’s me scoring at the end)
If you can accelerate hard and reach high speeds over 5, 10 or 20 metres you will get to the ball before your opponent, that’s far more useful than having a huge top speed that takes you too long to reach.
That’s why acceleration matters so much.
The question isn’t just:
“How fast are you?”
It’s:
“How quickly can you get fast?”
That’s what actually transfers to the game.
FOOTBALLERS — STOP TRAINING LIKE BODYBUILDERS
Getting stronger can absolutely improve your football.
But training purely to build muscle and training to improve athletic performance are two very different things.
As a footballer, the goal is to develop strength you can actually use — to accelerate, produce force, change direction, compete physically and stay robust throughout the season.
Your gym work should complement your football, not just make you better at the gym.
Want to train like an athlete rather than a bodybuilder? DM me “STRENGTH”.
