Brothers from Côte d’Ivoire become Russian citizens after fighting in the war against Ukraine
Last summer, the brothers came to Russia’s Chuvashia region to study, but later decided to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defence.
According to Bloomberg, Russia has sharply increased its recruitment of Africans to fight in the war.
The main recruitment targets include Zimbabwe and Burundi, as well as Madagascar, where a military junta came to power.
Recruiters are focusing on countries with weak judicial systems, limited press freedom and low democratic standards.
The Kremlin’s goal is to offset Russian army losses and address the shortage of personnel available for mobilisation.
