The truth behind absentee ownership of an SMB. • It is possible. I owned one for 25 years and for 23 I lived 1,500 miles away (before the internet). • It's unlikely to succeed if you don't put in your time - a couple years grinding it out knowing how it works ⬇️

Did the seller start it? Did they grow it from X to 5X before they left? If so you don’t have the insight they did. Even if you’re great at the product, you don’t know the people. Don’t expect to run the company AND keep your day job. The 2 yrs I ran it before I moved were 🗝️

Good advice here. My divorce experience: there are 3 issues to deal with: The kids (if you have them. Splitting the money &:assets. Your emotions. KEEP THEM SEPARATE. Don't try to use one to feel better about the other. It will not be good for your future. Especially the kids.
Something I’ve never talked about publicly: I got divorced three years ago. I hear from a lot of guys going through marital issues or divorce now. I don’t pretend to know what’s right for anyone else’s marriage or life. But when someone asks how to get through it, my advice is pretty consistent: I’m not pro-divorce (the opposite, actually). But if you’re going through it, there’s a lot of good life on the other side. You might not see it yet. That’s okay. Be kind to yourself. Ask for help! Don’t suffer in silence. I had lots of people in my corner. One person in particular, @pinpulleddrmf, deserves a special thank you for the countless hours of conversation and support. If you have kids, keep showing up. Give them love, stability, and room to have their own feelings. If they’re okay, you’ll be fine! Put your energy into what you can control: your choices, your words, and the parent and person you want to be. Focusing on fairness or anything you can’t control is total waste of time. Three years later, my life is filled with lots of love and happiness and I’m grateful for the life I’m building and pumped about what’s ahead. And for the entrepreneurs reading this: give your life outside work the same care and attention you give your business. I know you don’t believe me, but it CAN happen to you! Make time for your relationships. Have the tough conversations. Ask for support before you feel like you need it. It might be too late! Being able to handle a lot doesn’t mean you have to handle everything alone. If you’re in the thick of it right now, I’m rooting for you. You’re going to be OK! 🫡

This is an amazing primer on how Dave uses AI. You'll notice it's not a "set it and forget it." It's a tool and any tool only works in the right context and if used correctly.
Here's my method for getting great results from AI when I am making AI images and video. It starts with great photography, schematics, and a great workflow.

+1 for bootstrapping 🥾
Lat last year I almost bought a plumbing business for 750k. Would’ve have to personally guarantee a 10 yr SBA loan for a business doing 80k a month in revenue where half the net profit went to debt service. Instead I took the down payment money and opted to start my own from scratch. 6 months in we hit the same monthly revenue as the other business but with no debt. When analyzing a business to buy the question should always be asked, what would it take to start this and would I be better off in 12 months?

NEW AD: James Talarico's campaign just started running this ad on Google. It's entitled "Experience" Notable that the ad flashes "Never given an Epstein style deal" on the screen as Talarico says "I've never given a sweetheart deal to a pedophile." #TXSen

Your business should serve your life not the other way round. Said a different way - what do you want FROM your business, not for it.
Some businesses should stop growing. Get to $5M. Make it highly profitable. Build a great team. Work less. Take cash out. No rule says $5M has to become $50M.

Who in your org has ideas? If it's just you, it's a cultural thing. You may not be fostering a free flow of ideas. Realizing most ideas (even yours) are bad it's good to make it easy to A) have ideas and B) filter out the good from the bad. What's something you can do to change?

This woman is 104 years old. She’s seen 18 presidents in her life. Listen to what she says about Trump.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video shows an AI-generated woman, not a real 104-year-old person. The originating YouTube upload states all visuals are AI-created. snopes.com/fact-check/vid… youtube.com/watch?v=Qan-8T…

If you want your company to grow, you have to get work done by others (that's the definition of management). BUT it's really hard to give away the stuff that's only in your head.

Like decorative gourd season, it's about to be planning season. IFKYK A plan should change behavior (or prevent it from changing) after you make the plan. Otherwise the planning retreat is a boondoggle. 1/3

Do you even need a plan? If you'll hit your goals with your current trajectory, maybe you don't need one. Just keep on keeping on. No shame. If you need a plan, it should have these 4 parts: 2/3
1
92
•A measurable goal - often with measurable milestones •Accountability - who's responsible for what parts? •Allocation of Resources - if you're not spending time & money differently it's not really a plan •Assumptions - what must be true for the plan to work? /END
