Red Stingray (Hemitrygon akajei) Japan. This is the most common ray species we see on our Japanese Shark Diving Safaris, but we often see four or five other rays too, plus all the different sharks of course 😎 bigfishexpeditions.com/trips…

Today is International Sawfish Day! Can't let that one slip by without posting a pic. I found this one off Jupiter, Florida a few year ago. There have been a lot more sightings since then, but Pristis pectinata is still critically endangered and declining. sharksandrays.com/smalltooth…

Juvenile Boeseman's Freshwater Stingrays look very different from adults. Once this little guy gets a bit bigger it will display large orange spots separated by bolder black rings.

Potamotrygon boesmani in the Corantijn River, Suriname. Hacking through dense jungle to reach muddy creeks, sleeping in hammocks, intense humidity, spiders, ticks, mosquitos, but it was worth it! As far as I know, this ray has never been photographed underwater in the wild before

Porcupine River Stingray (Potamotrygon histrix). My second new species from the Ibera Wetlands in northern Argentina. This is a great area for freshwater stingrays. I actually photographed four species of rays, but only two of them were new. Now I am heading to the Guianas!

Great sharksandrays.com expedition in the Ibera Wetlands in northern Argentina. Cold, dark, low viz conditions in the river, luggage/wetsuit didn't make it, communication difficulties, etc, but it all came together in the end. Short-tailed River Ray - Potamotrygon brachyura
