I like Mike Sielski. Always enjoyed his writing and will continue to. It’s such a bizarre hill to die on that the Big 5 is dead. The local schools should not play each other because they don’t have as many local players? To think that it’s impossible to get it going again?

Blame #Villanova all you want. But last season, 4 of the 6 schools in the Big 5 did not have a Philadelphia-born player. The pipelines that funneled local talent to local schools are a trickle at best. Stop clinging to a tradition that doesn't exist. inquirer.com/college-sports/…

Even if it was incredibly difficult to get back to what it was, local teams should still play each other in any scenario! When the alternative is hosting Bucknell, Widener, and UMES… which is far worse than playing Big 5 schools. It makes no sense to dunk on not playing now.

Villanova has every right to opt out of the Big 5. Kevin Willard lying about it makes no sense. He did his little tweet, but now claims the others forced him out. Playing in the Big 5 means playing at La Salle. The tradition he claims to love is what he then insulted.

The other schools are continuing to play! They wouldn’t force out the biggest name. Just say what happened rather than blaming Neiburg or Arthur. The other schools are continuing it! You didn’t like the format. Your format was geared to never, ever play a road game.

There’s an argument that Villanova has maybe earned not having to play a road game based on what other P5’s are doing. But, it’s insulting to the other school’s intelligence to claim he was giving them the chance to not have to be on the road.

Next year’s Big 5 Classic will continue WITHOUT Villanova. Drexel, La Salle, St. Joe’s, Penn, and Temple will continue the tradition in a round-robin format. End of an era again. Let’s cherish it this year.

GW beat Temple in a “very close, very competitive” scrimmage on Saturday in DC, Adam Fisher told us at American Basketball Tip-off in Tampa earlier today. The Owls will host Iona for their next scrimmage on Oct. 24.
