Martin Luther: The Gospel is that though we are more wicked than we ever imagined, in Christ we are more loved than we ever dreamed or dared hope for.

Are we discipling our kids, or is sports culture doing it for us? As a dad of four, I know the tension between sports and Sunday worship. I wrote about navigating it without making Jesus the enemy of our kids' joy. billylowe.substack.com/p/whe…

I'm beginning to wonder if we've become so busy giving our kids the life we dreamed of that we're missing the life God intended us to live. Some thoughts on a quiet resistance to the American Dream. billylowe.substack.com/p/the…

Unpopular opinion: the human life should have been valued far more than the tigers life. No matter the circumstances, humans are infinitely more valuable. One of my biggest concerns right now is how much society is devaluing life.

If you’re wondering (which I hope you already know) this is evil and racist. 🤮
Christian nationalist pastor Dale Partridge won't let his daughter marry a devout Christian black man because he says it'll result in lower IQs for his descendants: "Before you decide that I'm crazy, just remember that our Christian forefathers treated interracial marriage as illegal." peoplefor.org/rightwingwatch…

How should Christians think about the recent events surrounding these public murders trials? Check out these reflections: billylowe.substack.com/p/how…

Good word, Erick
I support the death penalty. God himself told Noah that those who willfully take the life of another should be executed. The United States Army prohibits public executions, but the Pentagon does not seem to care about following its own rules. The pagan Roman Empire relished the public spectacle of executions. Growing up overseas in an Islamic country, some executions were public. Christendom, over time, recognized that justice is not to entertain or titillate. Justice is not meant to be a spectacle. In Ezekiel 33:11, scripture reads, “As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live.” Proverbs 24:17 echoes that for us. “Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice.” In Chapter 19 of De Spectaculis, Tertullian, one of the early post-apostolic church fathers, wrote about the public spectacle of executions in Rome. “It is good, no doubt, to have the guilty punished. Who but the criminal himself will deny that? And yet the innocent can find no pleasure in another's sufferings: he rather mourns that a brother has sinned so heinously as to need a punishment so dreadful,” he wrote. In Confessions, Augustine wrote of his friend Alypius, who, dragged into the Coliseum to see gladiatorial fights, shut his eyes, though not his ears. Upon the cheers of slaughter, he opened his eyes to the blood, and the bloodlust corrupted him. Augustine’s writing has long taught Christians not to be entertained by the spectacle of violence, as watching it can damage you. I support the death penalty. Public executions are soul-twisting and we should not go down that road.

This illustration is great. People on twitter need to worry about their own church. Good job, Josh.
By popular demand, here’s the full #LadderGate2026 sermon illustration. Week 7 of series through 2 Timothy, right after a few hundred people surrendered to Christ and are deciding whether to be obedient in baptism next week. Would do this again a thousand times for those ppl (if I weren’t getting too old for stuff like this!)

My kids have had the privilege of meeting most of the @braves players and I’ve got to say @MoneyyyMikeee is one of the kindest human beings on the planet. He’s easily become one of my favorite players!

Man, this is so good. J.D. is absolutely right. The best way to change society is to have Christian’s act like Christians.

This is exactly right. You can be restored but you’re still disqualified.
If you're a Christian leader who's had an affair, it's ok to go sell insurance. Or build houses. Or drive Uber. You should repent and be fully restored to community within the life of the church. But you don't have to get back on stage. You don't need to teach. If can't serve without being in the spotlight, maybe you weren't really serving in the first place.

Maybe Kirk Cousins wasn’t the problem. Maybe the @AtlantaFalcons are just the new Cleveland Browns.
