Depends where you’re based. I see York in your profile so for KYC options use @CoinCorner and set up an emoney account. Nb they sponsor me but I like them a lot. I’m literally listening to their podcast at the gym rn. Lol. For no KYC, my friends like @peachbitcoin and @BISQ and @hodlhodl I don’t have any bitcoin though :)

This is abominable government overreach. Remember, "we cannot expect governments, corporations, or other large, faceless organizations to grant us privacy out of their beneficence." This egregious action by the UK should make everyone consider other options. On N ostr, new encrypted messaging services are emerging. There is no company for a government to subpoena, and no easy way for authoritarian governments to spy on you if you learn how to use the new privacy tools that are emerging. Apple used to tell us "think different". Now you really need to take their advice.
🚨Breaking: UK Government orders Apple to let them spy on users' encrypted messages "We are extremely troubled by reports that the UK government has ordered Apple to create a backdoor that would effectively break encryption for millions of users - an unprecedented attack on privacy rights that has no place in any democracy. Big Brother Watch has been ringing alarm bells about the possibility of precisely this scenario since the adoption of the Investigatory Powers Bill in 2016. We all want the government to be able to effectively tackle crime and terrorism, but breaking encryption will not make us safer. Instead it will erode the fundamental rights and civil liberties of the entire population - and it will not stop with Apple. We urge the UK government to immediately rescind this draconian order and cease attempts to employ mass surveillance in lieu of the targeted powers already at their disposal." - Rebecca Vincent, Interim Director | @rebecca_vincent

I initially dismissed the new paper from @schaaf_jurgen and @BindseilUlrich(the “most consistently mistaken men at the @ecb) as yet more rambling from the confused and the ill-informed, but the more I think of it the more sinister it becomes. What do they say? I quote: “Current non-holders should realise they have compelling reasons to oppose Bitcoin and advocate for legislation against it, aiming to prevent Bitcoin prices from rising or to see Bitcoin disappear altogether.” In short, they are saying NOTHING LESS THAN the commercial success of an asset, and the benefits that accrue to its holders, is unfair, and that governments should use their power to depress the price and destroy the value of that asset, because not everyone held it to begin with. Think about that for a moment, and then imagine if they had said this about any asset other than Bitcoin. Microsoft shares are too expensive? Early investors have benefited, and now I can’t afford to invest? The government must destroy the value of Microsoft! Google shares are now too costly for me to buy? I can’t afford gold, or wheat futures? I will lobby the government to prevent Microsoft share prices from rising, or to see Microsoft disappear altogether! The government must destroy this value! It’s only when we consider it through this lens that we realise how genuinely insane this position is, and can only wonder at the strange intellectual poison that appears to have infected both their minds. Thankfully, we’re already seeing legislation like the piece below, for which @bitcoinpolicyuk lobbied, and which recognises that digital assets are ‘property’ like any other kind of asset, and should be subject to the same kind of legal protection. Central bankers will not be allowed to arbitrarily select assets for value destruction; they will not win. Its also not as if people haven’t been telling sceptics like Jurgen and Ulrich to buy Bitcoin for years. Bitcoiners are if nothing else keen for as many people to benefit from the system as possible. Not merely for its price appreciation, but because it is a tool that solves problems, facilitates exchange, and opens up the world of finance to those hitherto excluded from it. Unfortunately, if you’re a banker at the ECB and ignored us, you will now have to have fun staying poor.
1/ This new paper is a true declaration of war: the ECB claims that early #bitcoin adopters steal economic value from latecomers. I strongly believe authorities will use this luddite argument to enact harsh taxes or bans. Check 🧵 for why:

Satoshi was for a brief moment maybe just 1 person. Then Satoshi was definitely 2 people, one of which was Hal Finney (he managed to be 50% Satoshi 😎). Satoshi Nakamoto quickly became 100 people, and so on. Today everyone who Hodl's, runs a node or mines, is a little bit of Satoshi Nakamoto. Can we leave it there? 🤷‍♂️ thank you.

For my English-speaking followers, this course about the history of Bitcoin's creation is also available in English, but it currently needs to be reviewed: planb.network/en/courses/his… You can earn satoshis by contributing: github.com/PlanB-Network/bit…

Terminator 2 ends with Sarah Connor’s haunting voiceover, as she faces the unknown future with a sense of hope. “If a machine, a terminator, can learn the value of human life, maybe we can too.” Today, reading this, I feel a little like Sarah. If Mervyn King, a central banker, can realise that we held interest rates too low for too long…. Lord King does mention that doing so contributed to inflation, but doesn’t say why and how. A predominant reason is that cheap credit leads to aggressive lending and borrowing, and a vast increase in the money supply – where commercial banks merrily create new money at no cost to themselves – which also leads to all manner of knock on economic effects, from unaffordable housing to the huge debt burden currently being carried by companies like Thames Water, saddled with unrepayable acquisition debts fuelled by the credit boom. Perhaps, in an insane world, higher rates are the sanest choice.
I wrote previously about my history with Southern Water, the parallels with Thames Water, and the pernicious effect that the private equity industry has had on many such businesses (and not just utilities). In 2007 I worked on a bid for Southern Water (eventually sold to Greensands Investments). #ThamesWater had been sold the previous year in a very similar deal. In a typical PE deal, the buyer provides some equity, but most of the acquisition funding is debt; created from thin air by the lending banks (and then booked as assets in their own balance sheets). This is the primary reason why the operating companies end up buckling under such a huge debt burden. This debt then saddles the target company (in this case a water utility!) effectively forever. Such debts are almost never repaid, and servicing them sucks value out of the target; they are endlessly refinanced and restructured, with the deals delivering value only to professional investors, not to customers. There are examples of such businesses across the economy - Boots, Pizza Express, and many others; once good businesses that, once acquired by private equity, are fated never to be viable or functional ever again, laden with ultimately unrepayable and insupportable debts. This should never happen to any business, let alone to a public utility like a water company. teapaw.org/freddienew/statu…

As requested by @BBC Complaints, I sent the information by post—amused by dusting off my printer, finding an A4 envelope & queuing at the post office. While the picture shows me dropping it in a postbox for fun, it was actually sent by recorded delivery. Full timeline below.
Going old-school with BBC Complaints—after 10 months of back-and-forth, they now want me to send details by post because their web form has a 2,000-character limit. Clearly, they’re not ready for Bitcoin. It would be comical if it weren’t so serious. Here’s a timeline so far 🧵
