Chad Everdox appreciation post. Nick ‘Everdox’ Peterson (@nickeverdox) is genuinely one of the most underrated reverse engineers and Windows researchers in the industry. A lot of people know Riot Vanguard. Far fewer know the depth of Windows internals, kernel, anti-debugging, hypervisor and reverse engineering work behind one of the engineers who helped build and advance it. His old blog is an absolute gold mine. Some of this research is more than a decade old and still covers concepts people are learning and rediscovering today. Old but gold: Easy anti-trace with SYSCALL: everdox.blogspot.com/2015/05… Debugger detection with GetProcessIoCounters: everdox.blogspot.com/2013/11… BTF + LBR anti-tracing: everdox.blogspot.com/2013/10… Paged virtual memory as an anti-debug / anti-dumping primitive: everdox.blogspot.com/2013/03… Kernel/user shared page kernel-debugger detection: everdox.blogspot.com/2013/07… RTL_USER_PROCESS_PARAMETERS anti-debugging: everdox.blogspot.com/2013/02… Full archive: everdox.blogspot.com/ Then there is InfinityHook, another Everdox contribution that became a reference point for Windows kernel instrumentation: github.com/everdox/InfinityH… And his own article on revers.engineering: PatchGuard: Detection of Hypervisor Based Introspection [P1] revers.engineering/patchguar… If you are interested in reverse engineering, Windows internals, Windows kernel research, anti-debugging, anti-cheat engineering, hypervisor internals or obscure tricks buried deep inside the OS, his work is invaluable. Also bookmark the wider revers.engineering archive: revers.engineering/ That site is multi-author and contains excellent work from @daaximus , @aidankhoury across reverse engineering, kernel internals, virtualization and EPT. People spend a lot of time chasing the newest research. Sometimes the real gold has been sitting online for 10+ years. #ReverseEngineering #WindowsInternals #Infosec

Looks like Roblox had a massive bot ban wave. Over half the players in MM2 were bots.. 🤯 Literally over 500,000 players. Insane.

This week we released Server Authority on Roblox, and it's not just about cheat protection. Due to the deep integration of the technology with our physics and input systems, creators can also craft richer worlds from complex PIT maneuvers to cat wrestling (a critical use case).
Here's what you can do with the new Roblox server auth system! The physics engine participates in SAuth too, so these boneless cats are zero fakery - 100% real sim and forces, no input lag. The "no cheats" bit is barely the point. Should I make a tutorial? #robloxdev

Here's almost three minutes of footage of my custom, physics-based, Luau FSM-driven character controller running near flawlessly under the server authority API at 50ms of simulated latency. Misprediction rate is near zero. Round of applause to the whole SAuth team! #RobloxDev

Server Authority is now available for all creators. Block physics-based exploits like speed hacks without custom anti-cheat code, while prediction and rollback help preserve a responsive player experience. Learn more on the #RobloxDev forum. devforum.roblox.com/t/full-r…

Hit with an unexpected VAN:Restriction? It might be due to a recently discovered motherboard flaw that can hide DMA cheats pre-boot. If your system’s affected, Vanguard will prompt a security fix. 🔗bit.ly/4s3PBoe

One of the core learnings for me from Meeting C++ 2025 was when James McNellis showed that bool has 3 not two possible values. Thats its not just true and false, but can also be undefined/not initialized.

Although this may seem tough for some, this is what it takes for anti-cheat to improve and enforce proper security measures. I'm sure it's a frustrating obstacle for many, but if you want anti-cheat to advance, this is what's required. You can't complain about cheaters and then criticize the anti-cheat team for trying to address the issue. This is a step in the right direction👊
🛡️ Call of Duty #BlackOps6 | Call of Duty #Warzone A message from #TeamRICOCHET: Seeing a message to enable TPM 2.0 in Black Ops 6 or Warzone after the Season 05 Reloaded update, even though you’ve already enabled this feature? This can happen on certain AMD systems, as 3.x.0.x versions of their TPM software return an error during the attestation process. The image here shows a system with incompatible firmware that needs an update. You can update your BIOS/firmware to resolve this. RICOCHET Anti-Cheat uses a process called Remote Attestation to validate security settings with Microsoft outside of the game client, verifying a machine has not been tampered with. Our implementation of this technology uses an advanced and highly secure process, which may differ from the validation method used in other games. Check out our previous post for more details. xitter.cf/CODUpdates/status/1956…

Toronto burger shop called Good Fortune Burger renamed its menu items to sound like office supplies, helping remote workers potentially expense meals through work accounts. The "basic steel stapler" and "braided HDMI cord” are popular.

AI coding is used to generate a lot of bulk code that is often blindly accepted, but it seems there is at least as much opportunity for AI to help make codebases more beautiful.  Keeping a codebase in great shape or cleaning up a hairball takes a lot of effort beyond raw functionality, and a tireless AI assistant continuously pouring over everything looking for places to suggest changes should be valuable. AI as a diligent team member instead of your coding genie. While there are factors peculiar to each’s understanding, I believe there are common coding behaviors that improve understanding for both humans and LLMs. It should be possible to run actual objective experiments with “style guides” for LLMs, then intersect them with the politics and fashion of human style guides. Are there any tweaks to be made in LLM tokenization to more closely mirror programming language lexing? Does saving context length settle tabs vs spaces? I would like to see how a notoriously picky team like the @OpenBSD developers could onboard an AI team member.

No disrespect to Linus Torvalds, but this guy is the greatest geek alive 🫡 Created UNIX in 1971 when he was 28 years old. Created Go in 2009 when he was 66 years old😲 He also developed the B programming language (which led to C), created UTF-8 encoding (making international text possible online), and designed essential tools like grep that developers still rely on daily. He also helped with the development of Multics (that led to UNIX), Plan 9 from Bell Labs and Inferno operating systems. That's 4 operating systems in total... Most people don't even use these many OS. Pretty impressive resume, right? 🔥 And it's a shame that many people, even the ones in the IT and tech industry, don't know him. Ken Thompson.... Remember the name 🙏

Riot Games is one of many companies that use a kernel-level anti-cheat system to fight cheaters. But it's not just about the kernel. This is how Riot's tries to keep cheaters out of the game. (Re-upping this for folks that logged off during weekend.) techcrunch.com/2025/05/03/ho…
