35 years ago today, on October 25, 1991, the Airbus A340-300 took its maiden flight from Toulouse, France.
Designed for long-haul travel, the four-engine widebody was developed alongside the twin-engine A330, giving airlines two different approaches to intercontinental operations.
The A340 became an icon of the four-engine long-haul era.

120 years ago today, in 1906, Brazilian aviation pioneer Alberto Santos-Dumont flew his 14-bis biplane approximately 60 metres (197 feet) at Bagatelle, Paris, reaching around 3 metres in altitude.
The flight won the Archdeacon Prize and became a landmark in publicly witnessed, powered heavier-than-air flight in Europe.

On this day in 1926, U.S. Navy Curtiss F6C-2 Hawk fighters surprised the Pacific Fleet with a simulated dive-bombing attack, diving almost vertically toward battleships near San Pedro, California.
The demonstration helped shape naval strike tactics that would become crucial in World War II, especially against enemy aircraft carriers.
A turning point in carrier warfare began with an experiment. 🇺🇸

The Boeing 737-200 has a landing gear trick you rarely see this close! ✈️
That giant plate is a gravel deflector, designed to stop the nose wheels from throwing stones and debris into the engines and against the aircraft’s underside.
Even better? As the gear retracts, the deflector folds up to help close the wheel well. The gravel kit also uses engine bleed-air vortex dissipators to reduce debris ingestion on unpaved runways.

The XB-70 Valkyrie broke the sound barrier on its third test flight!
Built by North American Aviation, this futuristic six-engine bomber was designed to cruise at Mach 3, around three times the speed of sound, at 70,000 feet.
Its revolutionary delta wing and folding wingtips helped manage shock waves at extreme speeds.
The bomber programme was cancelled, but the surviving Valkyrie became a flying laboratory for supersonic research.
A machine decades ahead of its time. ✈️

A POWER BANK FIRE FORCED AN INDIGO FLIGHT TO DIVERT! ⚠️
IndiGo flight 6E6115, operating from Delhi to Chennai, was diverted to Hyderabad on October 11 after smoke was detected from a passenger’s electronic device. The crew brought the situation under control, and the aircraft landed safely.
Lithium battery fires can escalate rapidly in an aircraft cabin. The DGCA has warned about these risks, advising passengers not to use or charge power banks during flights and not to store them in overhead bins.

136 years ago, French engineer Clément Ader reportedly lifted his steam-powered Éole off the ground near Paris.
🦇 Inspired by a bat, the machine used enormous articulated wings and a four-bladed bamboo propeller driven by a 20 hp steam engine. It reportedly travelled 50 metres at a height of just 20 cm.
It wasn’t controlled, sustained flight but it was a remarkable step toward powered aviation.
Sometimes, history begins just inches above the ground. 🚀
