a developer just put $2,000 in bitcoin on a server with the PHP vulnerability and dared the entire internet to steal it
17 hours later the money is still there
people are crashing the server but nobody can actually pull off the exploit
remember when i posted about marcus hutchins calling out all those fake AI-generated exploits on github? this is the proof
the vulnerability is real. but actually using it is a completely different story
$2,000 sitting on a broken server and the whole internet can't touch it
❗️ A developer hid a Bitcoin key on a PHP server left unpatched against PHP2Shell, the critical flaws fixed on Oct 21, and dared anyone to steal it.
17 hours on, the wallet holds ~$2,000 and nobody has taken it.
The developer says someone is crashing PHP but "still no RCE yet".
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The GitHub repository cited as the source explicitly acknowledges in its README that the supposed exploit is fabricated: “And of course it’s fake. Duh. Note: No harm intended, purely for fun.”

We believe everyone should have a small Linux computer at home, and we’ve been thinking about what your first mini PC should look like in the age of AI agents. At Pamir, we want to bring a new wave of fun, hands-on tech to everyone.

Native UTXOs on Ethereum.
Payments should be one-shot objects, not permanent state.
Bitcoin got this right. Ethereum can bring the same idea to payments: prove existence from history, keep only a spent bit in state, and reduce permanent state by ~99.8%.

We've made the difficult decision to wind down @EverclearOrg.
@LayneHaber @RHLSTHRM and I started Connext (later Everclear) in 2017 to help solve the painful UX holding Ethereum back from mainstream adoption.
Over the last 9 years, our team:
- Shipped the first production L2 (using state channels) in 2018.
- Contributed to the creation of the @MolochDAO, catalyzing renewed interest in DAOs.
- Pioneered the first intent-based bridge in 2020.
- Created the Chain Abstraction vision and demonstrated it's potential for staking/restaking protocols.
- Pushed forward ERC-7281 as a neutral, open standard for bridged tokens.
- Brought clearance to DeFi.
- Processed over $6B in network volume.
Throughout that time, we've also done our best to stay true to our principles and the crypto ethos; pushing for a higher bar of transparency and trust-minimization for ourselves and the space at large.
Even though this isn't the ending we ultimately wanted, I am *incredibly* proud of what our team has accomplished and grateful to those who have supported us all of these years ❤️
Longer post-mortem coming soon.
In the meantime, if you are a team that is hiring: we have a team of 10x operators who have executed ruthlessly through some of the harshest market conditions on shoestring budgets. Reach out!

Short-term things being done to shift Ethereum toward native privacy:
* AA + FOCIL (makes privacy protocol txs, among many other things, first-class with strong inclusion guarantees)
* Keyed nonces: xitter.cf/soispoke/status/205163…
* Access-layer work (Kohaku, private reads...)

"Even more bugs are inevitable, software is all going to become probabilistic now" is cope. "AI bug-finding means we have to embrace closed-source now" is a psyop.
Writing buggy code has moved from hard to trivial. Writing secure code has moved from impossible to hard.

Crypto is not just a ledger of transactions---it’s a ledger of truth and trust. That’s what makes Bitcoin valuable. For Bitcoin this requires burning energy on random number guessing. What if we could instead leverage massive, real-world computation to achieve the same level of security? This has been an outstanding open problem for more than 30 years in academia, and since the emergence of blockchains in industry.
Last year, we proposed the first solution (eprint.iacr.org/2025/685). Our mathematical breakthrough suggests piggy-backing on matrix multiplications, the native operation of GPUs that power the AI revolution, from pre-training, post-training, to inference. The potential applications are endless: improving the unit-economics of LLMs, shifting AI-generated wealth back to users, and enabling new primitives such as settlement and even UBI systems for AI agents.
Since then, we've worked hard turning the math into a fully operational system. From the algebra and CUDA kernels to a working L1 blockchain and a production LLM inference pipeline implementing this “2-for-1” technology. Today, we’re excited to share that the @prlnet is ready, and will soon enable serving SoTA LLMs while mining the blockchain at negligible additional cost.
Along the way, we encountered many fascinating challenges. We’re now publishing them as a collaborative Polymath challenge, spanning open questions in math, systems and economics. If you’re interested, take a look and feel free to reach out: pearlpolymath.com.

waay back in 2020, I designed the L402 protocol to solve authentication+payments on the web for machines 🤖 -> lightning.engineering/posts/…
flash forward to 2026, and now the machines are intelligent, kicking off a new era of personal AI agents
with the latest advancements in AI, the L402 protocol is more relevant than ever
today we're releasing a suite of CLIs, skills, and MCP servers to enable agents to *securely* transact on the web ⚡️
AI agents can write code, send emails, and make phone calls. But they still can't transact.
Today we're fixing that. Releasing a new set of tools that give agents native access to the Lightning Network: lnget for automatic L402 payments, MCP for node operations, remote signing for key isolation, and scoped credentials for spending control.
The machine-payable web starts now. And bitcoin makes it possible. ⚡🦞

A couple years ago I was talking to my brother who is an even bigger gamer than me. I asked him what he wanted and he said he just wanted better games and that it was something money couldn’t buy. His answer stuck with me for a long time because he was right that you couldn’t just pay more money to buy a better game; you needed real artisans who cared enough about craftsmanship to build them.
Of the major studios, who even makes good games still? FromSoft, Larian, GGG, maybe Nintendo, on rare occasion Ubisoft and maybe a few others. Sure there are tons of great indie developers but why are most big corporates producing slop? There was something wrong with the culture.
It also got me thinking about what else money couldn’t buy. It certainly can’t buy a better and more functional society. Interestingly money can make society worse as we see with all these paid protesters/agitators but it can’t do the reverse. And so a great culture war has to be fought. From the Twitch river to the Discord sea, gaming will be free.
When the younger generations no longer believe their circumstances will be better than the older generations, the inter-generational compact has been broken. Hope has turned into despair. With despair, the allure of communism grows. But this is not the answer. Communism will only create more misery and turmoil. Instead, we must win a culture war and then repair the social fabric.
Cultural warfare is preferable to economic and physical warfare. It is far less costly in terms of both lives, physical well-being, and capital. Just look at what’s happening with the government shutdown and all the violence on the streets. So if you are a communist/socialist, put down your arms and pick up your memes. May the best memes win. Also, you guys need to stop corrupting the youth. Normal people do not want to send their son to school only for him to come back a daughter.
Choose plowshares over swords or we will all perish.
